Hi, I have a 5yr old 88820/DD603H dishwasher that is not draining correctly. The top draw works fine but the bottom draw countdown timer seems to lock up approx 1/3 into the cycle and then eventually displays F4. This occurs on all wash cycles and eco/no eco settings – except rinse! If the drawer is then opened after F4 is displayed it has not pumped out the dirty water and it’s up to the bottom of the main plate rack. If rinse is then selected the water is pumped out and all is fine! Initially this indicates a pump problem but if Rinse removes the water it seems not. Tried switching off the main power for 5mins but same result. Taken out the bottom drawer and pipes are not kinked or blocked. Could it be the controller for the bottom drawer? Im an engineer so used to taking things apart…
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks

F4 is a faulty heater plate, not the easiest of jobs to do if you have not seen it done before.

Hi, Are you pretty sure its not the controller? Are there any more tests I can do to be certain of the fault?

If it is the heater plate can you give any advise or point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

As a general rule with all electronic controllers…

If they report a fault that exists then they’re probably doing their job correctly and reporting an actual fault.

F4 is a heating error and, as John says, highly probably the heating plate that is faulty.

To prove it, just take the heater out and meter it. Actually checking components is the only way to make sure you are replacing the correct ones that are faulty, otherwise it’s just a guess and you’re playing parts bingo hoping to get the right one.

Pretty confident but you can’t be sure without checking the resistance values of the heater.

If you take out the basket and then the round stainless plate inside the dishwasher you will see the top of the heater plate, it is the enamelled plate between the plastic tub and the rotor motor in the middle. It comes out from the underside of the tub but if you are going to try to remove it make a careful note of how you get it out as it can be tricky to get back in once dismantled. It would be nearly impossible to describe how to remove without seeing it done but if you attack it from the bottom you will get there, once you have done it you will understand why it is hard to describe how to do the job 😆

I were you, I would spend my time finding someone with experience of working on these difficult little beggars, rather than stripping it down yourself.

Fisher Paykel DD603H – hangs during cycle

Hi Many thanks for all the replies.

Ive been doing some more testing and its not displaying errors any longer. Basically it just extends the cycle time by getting stuck for a while in the program before moving on. Eventually it gets to the end and it is pumping the water out aswell. So for example on the fast eco setting the time is 42mins, but after 24mins it hangs for approx 45mins. It then moves on and at 4mins it hangs again for 45mins and then it finishes correctly. I did pause it during each of the “hanged” periods and there was water in the bottom that was quite warm, so maybe the heater is ok and it is the controller after all?

I get the same result with the other settings..

    Thanks

As I said above, check the heater resistance values. The heater has two circuits so one can fail and the water will still get warm.
I very much doubt it will be a controller problem.

    Hi John,

Many thanks for advice. Ok time to take a look inside at the heater then. Any ideas what the two resistance values should be?

I assume it will still be ok to use the top drawer with the bottom removed?

    Thanks

This reply is too late for yan but any later searchers might find it handy. Unplug the power supply first. The heater plate dropper resistance can be tested via the multipin plug on the bottom right of the 525 controller. Testing between sockets 4 and 5 (counting from the right hand side) should be 24ohms +/-3ohms. The Element track is tested between socket 6 and the neutral pin of the power plug, again 24ohms +/-3.For further component resistances, search vimeo.com
