ParticipantHi,
machine: hotpoint aqualtis AQM8L29I washer dryer.the problem : will not drain.
checked: no blockages,
pump resistance across the terminals. 229 ohms. (I saw on youtube that it should be 160 ish)
shoved a multimeter on pump terminals, reads 4 to 5 volts. When filled with water and drain cycle selected voltage spikes to 130 then it sounds like a relay trips and it immediately returns to 4 to 5 volts. (is that because the pump is not connected or is the problem in the feed?).Would be very grateful for any suggestions. I hope it is something simple like the pump but I don’t want to spend money on the pump if that is not the problem.
Any ideas.
Thanks very much for taking the time to read this….August 29, 2013 at 9:42 am #400052Seamy

Pump sounds as it is o.k, if it was open circuit or burn’t out you would’nt get a reading, pump is not going to break the bank, they’re only a tenner, presuming you have tested that it it is mechanically sound & not seized up?
Was there any blockage in either the drain hose or sump hose?August 29, 2013 at 1:48 pm #400053timoteo

Hi, thanks for replying. No there was no blockage and the pump goes round fine and seems fine. Any ideas? thanks

You can connect a cable carefully to the pump, tape connections so theres no chance of you touching them & see if it runs o.k.
If pump runs o.k but won’t run on appliance its likely the P.C.B is done, maybe a triac faulty, and perhaps needing a new board fitted, quite expensive .August 29, 2013 at 7:38 pm #400055timoteo

I haven’t connected the pump alone – rather get hold of some spade connectors to make it safer rather than play around with bare wires.. I did try to connect it to the dryer blower which has the same connection but I didn’t wait long enough in the cycle to see it work. I will see what I can do. If pump is ok then whether to get new pcb or new machine. I’ve only just fitted a new heating element and now this. I understand the circuit board is not something so easy to fit – not plug and play as it were. Annoying expenses…

You can get a P.C.B that is already programmed to go into the machine , would it not be better to get an engineer to take a look at it?
He/she will tell you there & then whether its o.k or needs whatever parts etc, safer too for all concerned as i’m not that comfortable with novices working on or testing equipment if they don’t know what they are at.September 1, 2013 at 4:21 pm #400057taffska

Thanks very much for taking the time to read this….sounds as if it might be a short circuit coil, pump will still try to work when short circuit, resistance reading is very high for a coil?it might have effected the main pcb board in which case you will have to replace and then programme it!! another culprit on that appliance is that they use a frequency pressure switch, they can sometimes be a bit silly.if appliance is under 5yrs old you have a parts warranty with the manufacturer, might be worth ringing them, they will offer you a insurance repair policy which will cost you £150.00but will cover the whole appliance for a year.do you live in a hard water area? if so check wash heater ntc?also check the wiring onto the dry heater ntc, which is housed in the dry manifold(just b4 it goes into the door seal) you’r looking at approx 20kohms if either goes open/short circuit they produce stupid faults, hope this helps, regards taffskaSeptember 3, 2013 at 12:01 pm #400058timoteo

The wiring in the dry heater – I would never have imagined that it could affect the drain pump. It just so happens that when I took the machine out I found the NTC sensor from the dry manifold on the floor completely disintegrated. I was going to change it anyway but only when I could figure out if the machine will work. Didn’t think the dryer would have anything to do with the wash cycle. Maybe the whole thing will work fixing that. Will get onto it. Thank you.
I live in a soft water area. I’m against these insurance policies – it doesn’t take long before you pay the value of the whole machine. Rather give it a go fixing it or buy a new machine – works out cheaper in the long run I think.September 3, 2013 at 8:13 pm #400059timoteo

Brilliant – job done. thank you taffska.
I took out the old thermistor from the broken water heater element I changed a while back, plugged it in to the socket of the dryer ntc thermistor – it doesn’t fit in the manifold but I taped it to the outside and the washer works fine – pump works , everything except the dryer which will work when i get hold of a new dryer thermistor. Thank you for all your help everyone who contributed – this forum saved me some serious £££…October 11, 2013 at 10:39 am #400060vergui

Hi,
I have the same problems with my hotpoint aqualtis AQM8D49U…
After a F5 alert, I removed a blockage before the drain pump. Now when I launch a washing cycle, the drain pump turns a while and then nothing… After some minutes, of nothing, the F5 error comes back.
When I launch a washing cycle the door is locked but if I pause she still remains locked. I have to blow in the frequency pressure switch (an old one) to unlocked the door.Checked :
– pump is ok (drain well when I put lot of water)
– no blockage
– frequency pressure switch changed and tube ok
– dry heater ntc seems to be ok, I tested with an 20Kohms resistor and I have the same problem.
– PCB looks goodIf anyone can help me.
Thanks a lot
Guillaume
