ParticipantI have a hotpoint Electronic 800 De luxe 9526 washing machine and need advice on the following.
Before i start i must point out that i have put close to £140 into this machine over the past couple of months and replacing it is not an option.
I have just stripped down my machine to check out what i thought was worn drum bearings.
But i found the following.

Can this part be replaced.
How do i remove whats left in the machine with out killing the bearings.

Am i correct in thinking that the drum pulley unscrews.

Cheers

Dave,
It will need a new drum shaft and bearing kit (Part No 1611166) so the bearing will need taking out to do a proper job ( the drum pulley screws on by the way)
Replacement part available here

Hi Martin,
How hard is it to remove the drum pulley as mine just keep turning the whole shaft.
Any tips

Someone will need to hold the broken shaft on the inside of the drum whilst you unscrew the pulley (anticlockwise).
(I’ve amended the link for the spare parts you need by the way in my previous post – above)

Very tight Dave, try heating it (the pulley) with a small blowtorch to make it easier. Holding the drum spigot firmly is your main problem though. I would suggest breaking the remainder of the aluminium alloy away to expose the steel shaft. Then grab that with a pair of Stilsons or Mole Grips and hang on tight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have a situation here where its a case af do or die . I suggest you try the following . First get the machine outside . I take it you have removed the pulley nut . Get someone with strong hands to hold the remains of the spider inside th drum using a mole grip , hand vice or similar tool . if all else fails wrap the remains in rags to protect the hands . Before you start , pour a full kettle of boiling water over the pulley hub , to expand the aluminium . Now , while thespider is held , using a block of wood against one of the spokes , hit the block with a hammer to knock the pulley round in an anticlockwise direction . Nut must be removed first oc course . use a 30mm socket on a T bar , and knock that around in a similar fashion . In my experience this is your best hope .

You will also need to examine the heating element, a drum support in this condition will quite possibly have cut through the heater casing. BTW, that damage is caused by incorrect detergent dosage/use of inferior quality detergents and over use of economy features, you have not done enough ‘hot’ washes.
Bearings are easy to fit, with the correct tools/experience.

Good call about the heating element………..:wink:It looks like the drum has clipped it.

HI
Looking at the picture of the pulley it looks as if the rear bearing is coming out of the housing, could posibly be a case of a new tub.

Just call me mister lucky from now on 🙁
The reason why the drum pulley was a nightmare to get off, was the fact that it was cross threaded.
This has now been removed but was damaged in the process. Has anyone got one going cheap new or secondhand will be fine 🙂
Just as long as its in full working order.
I have removed the rear bearing but am struggling with the front as the seal is stuck in tight.
Any tips on removing this without damaging the hub.
Cheers

Yor pictures do not seem to match the captions . Cant see a picture of the front bearing . I f front bearing is stuck ,[bearing nearest machine door] proceed as follows . Take machine outside . stuff a large potato in hole where rear bearing fits , to form a water tight seal . Lay machine on its back .Pour a large kettle of boiling water into bearing tube . If it leaks keep it topped up untill you run out of water . Let it stand 3 minutes . This will expand the tube . stand machine up and remove potato . You need a steel bar , about a foot long and an inch diameter . poke bar through rear of tube so it rests against one side of bearing . Whack it with a lump hammer . move bar end across to other side and hit it again . hit each side alternately , and keep checking that it is coming out square . whipe and grease tube before fitting bearings . Never had a pulley cross threaded . Try local dump , scrapyards , waste ground , ditches , or if its like Boston , the town hall carpark etc .

neptune,
What are you on about? The photographs provided by dnaxton show perfectly the front bearing (in place & removed). Stuff a potato and boiling water indeed? The guy has removed the bearing with far less stuff and nonsense. A soaking in WD40 and a cold chisel is all that’s required in this instant.
We all adopt our own techniques in these circumstances and if it works for you then great and your comments nevertheless are much appreciated
