    Model: SUK91MFX5

    Hi all,

I need some help. Our Smeg oven of over 10 years is playing up. The right side element is on constantly if power is applied to the oven even if the oven switch is in the off position the element gets REALLY hot.

    Things I’ve tried:

I’ve swapped the left and right elements around to see if I have a faulty element but the right side was still the element the heated up so I guess that proved that the element is ok and something else is at fault.

I think the selector switch that is responsible for turning the oven on / off is ok as you can select fan on, grill on etc via this switch and the options are responsive.

I’m thinking perhaps it’s some kind of control board issue?

    Appreciate any advice

    Scott

There is a pcb on the back only thing to check with a multi meter is you have power to it I have circled where the possibility 240 volts will be

I imagine the pcb will be receiving power as the rest of the cooker works as it should. But that doesn’t mean the pcb hasn’t got a fault for the right side element. Do you happen to know if ukwhitegoods sell this pcb?

looks like this one but check yourself

    https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/811650197-oven-electronic-control-board

make sure its gone as the fault could also be the control switches

you would need to put a multi meter across the relay contact when the cooker is off to see if its stuck closed

thanks dave. Assume the pcb is in the back of the oven? Pretty sure the control switch is ok as other functions can be selected.

I assumed but was checking with you hence the question mark.

yes pcb is at the back

the reason for the board is to keep the load off the switches. With this unit using a double element the current of both elements would burn out the controls

you need to see if the relay contacts are welded closed

I’ve removed the control pcb and checked the relays which are seem fine (open)

I did notice a scorched white wire which goes into one of the molex plugs at the top right of the cooker.

I’ve reconnected the spade terminals to the control board and gave the scorched wire a wiggle and the issue with the element seems to be fixed.

Perhaps I’ll look at bypassing the molex connector and crimp the scorched wire so I know it is making good contact. I may also try reflowing the solder on the control board or replacing it altogether.

those connecters are a constant problem

they are not really up to the job
