ParticipantI’m trying to find a new cooker to replace our aging Belling 600XT.
I’m after the following features, but am having trouble finding a cooker with them all:-
1. Ceramic hob
2. Double oven with stay-clean linings
3. Continuously variable controls for the hob.
4. Black or dark brown finish. The continuously variable controls seem to be the main issue, as most cookers now appear to have ones that click between the positions. I can’t believe that these are good for controlling simmering for example, as on our current cooker I usually use in-between settings, if that makes sense.
The only one I have found so far that almost ticks all of the boxes is a Cannon Kendal, but that has a strange oval ‘ring’ on its hob and I’m not really sure why I would ever use that.
❓

Hi
We deal with the majority of manufacturers, I`ll have a look in the morning when I have the info to hand.

Hi tubafan
Having had a look around the different brands I cannot find a double oven with all that`s on your wish list I`m afraid.
The Cannon Kendal ticks the most boxes as you have found. The oval option on the hob is ideal for a fish kettle or if jam making for use with a maslin pan.
If the variable control on the hobs is critical then a compromise may be required as Bosch now produce 60cm electric cookers with variable controls. However it has a large single cavity with drop down door and storage underneath. Benefit is less strain on the back and you can use the door to assist lifting heavier items in and out.

Don,
Thanks for your help. Any idea why most manufacturers have gone for the ‘clicky’ controls – some cost saving I suspect!
Do they actually work in the same way as the continuosly variable one – ie alter the power-on/power-off duty cycle – or have they got a number of different power outputs?

Don,
Does that mean that you can select a quarter/half etc position between the clicks – if so perhaps I am worrying about nothing!
(Hopefully my last question on the subject 😳 ).

Unfortunately not tubafan you have to go “onto” the click for it to work. Darn nuisance I know 😆If you are worried about water etc bubbling too fast just remove part of the pan from the ring 😉

Hi tubafan
Some do call it that 😉 .
Let us know how you get on with whatever you choose as it may help other posters in the future.
