    Hey!
I just discovered this forum when looking for information about buying a new cooker hood for my brother’s flat where I’m currently staying – after looking at websites such as trade-appliances.co.uk I realised just how much choice there is and don’t really know where to start!?! They have a helpline number to ring on their website but so far I seem to just be put on hold for ages when I try to call.

I’ve read the information on this website about cooker hoods, but am not really any the wiser about what type of hood to get, what make, what price range to be looking at, what power for the size of room etc…so I thought I’d leave a message here in the hope that someone much more knowledgeable about these matters might be able to point me in the right direction!

I’m not sure what kind of information you need about my situation to advise me, but here’s what you would probably want to know:
The hood is for a kitchen in a top floor flat in the Marchmont area of Edinburgh
The kitchen is quite small, only approx. 4mx2mx4m, so about 32m^3
The stove area is approx. 0.5mx0.5m, so about 0.25 m^3
At present there is some kind of small and seriously inadequate old extractor fan in the wall at ceiling height, but as my brother does a lot of chinese stir-fry cooking the grease seems to have permeated throughout the flat, so a more powerful fan is definitely needed!

If anyone knows of any good tradesmen in the area, or has advice on what sort of cooker hood I should be looking at, a reply post would be very much appreciated!

Thanks, and sorry it’s such a long post 🙂

    Hiya,

For that kind of cooking the hood will need to be vented to external air IMO, you’d get away without it maybe just to extract the grease but you wouldn’t be happy with it unvented.

For more specific advice try contacting someone at Elica (http://www.elica.co.uk) as the hoods are pretty good, don’t give any grief and they specialise in hoods. I think that they also have a network of instllers, but I’m not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure of that.

    Hope that helps.

    K.
