help with diagnosis on a whirlpool washer dryer

i have an awg329 which pulled a wire out causing a short circuit while starting the spin cycle. The wire is mounted on a preliminary coil on top of the motor (it seems to be some sort of signal rather than power). i had a enginner look at it and he advised that the timer had blown. After replacing the timer and renewing the spade connectors on the blown wire i switched on the machine, the relay was clicking and the motor got hot but the drum did not spin nor did it take in water. I switched it off and now the relay does not click nor does the motor get hot when i switch it back on. from here on in i am am need of assistance. If anybody fancies having a go at explaining to me what it might be i would be grateful.

Could be any number of things here I’m afraid, especially if you haven’t rewired the timer correctly. Only one wrong wire on the wrong terminal and all that 😕

What do you mean about the “wire on the preliminary coil?”

The tacho generator coil I think Martin 😉

It’s more likely a short there would have damaged the power control PCB than the timer.

By the way, this is a Smeg manufactured appliance.

having had a small bit of experience with wiring and also a kind colour co-ordianation sequence on the timer i am pretty sure it is correct.

the motor i am referring to (maybe incorrectly, it is an circular aluminum body with a small fan outside and a wide rubber hose into the back of the drum (approx 3 inches wide) ) is not the motor underneath the drum but mounted at the back of the machine at the top. The wires that came off are fixed a a small plastic cover mounted on it with live and neutral indicators on it, when you open the case a copper coil is inside and i have put a continuity tester across it and it is fine.

this is also the motor getting hot

any more ideas?

The dryer fan motor then, forget what I said earlier 😀

Even if it shows continuity it may well be that the coils have shorted somewhere.

It sounds to me like it’s a new fan motor required to be honest.

Nope, it wouldn’t.

May I suggest you call an engineer to check and diagnose for you ?

I think you may have already wasted money on the new timer to be honest 😉
