ParticipantHello, I’m fairly hopeless with this type of stuff so no technical stuff please.
Ok, we have the Hotpoint CTD40 dryer, for a month or three now it’s been making an horrific noise. Yesterday it started to smell too so DH decided to have a look and he found that the fan was rubbing on the machine. It was very loose so he put some tape around the spline (?) and replaced it, he turned the dryer on and and hey presto!, quiet dryer. 5 hours later… I went out to it and it was still going with the lights competing with the Christmas decorations! I should have taken note of which lights but I didn’t – sorry. Anyway, the machine was blowing cold.
I managed to find this forum and I thought after reading posts that it was the thermostats. I’ve taken the back off and it looks like the element is broken. There are four and the bottom ones – although the actual wire part is complete – is sagging as the centre part coated board (card?) is snapped. Sorry for the terrible description. Where do I find another? I found this link http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/product_ … ts_id=1127 which looks like it but it doesn’t list our model. Help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Participantnope thats not it
first of all, he probably broke the heater when he took the cover off
the fan going is common, and it would be best to replace it
we need to know mostly whether the element has 2 stats, or 3
that will determine what heater is on it… oh, and a serial number would be useful too

Thank you for replying.
Having looked at the machine again, it appears to have 2 thermostats (either side of a black plastic fitting?).
The exact model is a CDT40G.
The serial number is 608230092.
I looked in the Hotpoint section on this site for fans but didn’t see any. Can you advise me on the name of the part so I can do a search for one. Again, many thanks.

That fan will not be in the shop. The part numbers you need are a C00208040 Fan & C00143511 thermostat kit. The heating element comes complete with stats and is a C00145747. An e-mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should do the trick.
