I’d like to change the door seal on my Hotpoint Washer/Dryer BWD20 and any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. I’ve stripped the machine down and had a look and see that there is a front and rear thin metal clamp belt that needs to be removed. Anyone got any tips on how best to get these on and off. Many thanks in advance!

Interesting to read that you have ‘stripped the machine down’ and yet you ask how to remove the front seal clamp. 😕

Removal of front panel is the only ‘strip down’ needed which is impossible without removing the front seal clamp. You have to carefully prise the outer clamp wire off with a thin terminal screwdriver or similar tool. It is tensioned by a spring usually located at the bottom, this is the best place to start levering it off from. Once the front panel is removed you can gain access to the main drum to seal clamp. This is usually secured by a clamp and screw arrangement.

Getting the outer clamp back on can be awkward, two thin screwdrivers and a smear of washing up liquid does the trick.

All with the mains plug removed of course. 😉

The machine is actually a Smeg made appliance.

    Jim.

Many thanks for your prompt and detailed response. This is exactly what I wanted to know. By stripping the machine I actually meant that I took the top and front panels off and then when I saw the outer clamp wire I wondered if there was a special tool I needed to release and re-secure the wire. Your description has answered my question so many thanks again.
