ParticipantHello, thank you in advance to anyone who may be able to assist me,
I have purchased a secondhand Iceline chest freezer and thought everything was ok, but when I installed it, I put it on fast freeze to help it on and forgot to turn it off until I got an electric bill 8 weeks later then I realised what id done, because I keep the freezer in a cupboard I wasn’t really aware of the sound of the motor running..after realising what I had done I turned off the fast freeze and left the manual dial midway between the letter N and Max, 3 months on and another extorionate electric bill, I went to look at the freezer again and the temperature guage reads -40
I have looked at the dial on the front of the freezer and it has various settings, min at the bottom left, then at around 11 oclock there is a symbol that looks like a circle with a line through and a letter E, then at 12 oclock there is the letter N and then at bottom right it says Max, the dial has an arrow to point it at one of the settings, obviously I understand what min and max mean but what are the other symbols and where should it be best left?
I cannot see the model number of the freezer as its against a wall and I cannot move it
I have taken a picture of the dial if there is a way I can upload it as I guess my description is not that clever
Please can someone help as its full of goods that I really don’t want to lose

E is for Economy N is for Normal.
It is best set on N for Normal.
If it is set on economy and is -40 then you need to have the stat or refrigerant checked.
If it is low on refrigerant then it will not get cold enough near the stat to turn the stat off.
It may also mean the compressor is now not pumping correctly after running for so long.

bob, thanks for quick response, the minus 40 was where It was when I went in and looked so I immediately moved the dial to the e and then took picture, shall I leave it on economy for a while to see if it drops temperature? the motor is still running and theres a little bit of frost inside, everything is frozen inside (its full to brim)

Yes leave it on E it may take 24 to 48 hours for the refrigerant to cool.
If it is still running after 48 hours and it only has frost near the top then you have a compressor fault or it is low on Gas.

thanks bob
I have noticed it is going on and off occasionally
I was going to defrost it but will wait the 48 hours and see what happens, there is frost around the sides and on some of the items but its not solid, its quite flakey
will let you know what happens
thank you againFebruary 26, 2014 at 10:12 pm #410351SAMURI

You also need to check the lid seal is sealing ok if it is soft white frost.
If it has a lot of frost then it may pay to turn it off and defrost it.

Hi bob
I think I may be lucky, after a few hours of running I noticed the freezer has been switching itself off for periods whilst in E mode
I grabbed the moment though and switched off got everything out and scraped the walls clear with the aid of a bowl of boiling water, totally removed the frost and everything back in within 30 minutes
Switched back on and left on E mode, now to watch and seeRealised I left out some lamb and venison so curry on the menu tonight, pop in for some as a thank you lol
Will keep you posted

Hi
I appreciate this is an old thread but it refers to my freezer so I thought it relevant.
Basically, what is the orange switch for ?
Thanks
