I know that some of you don’t see this stuff where you get the loons but, we see it every day and, it’s getting worse. Anyone that does warranty service will know, there is an endless supply of complete and utter nut jobs out there.

Here’s a recent one from Amica to start with, I’ll explain after you get a gander at this lot….

    Email from customer…

Customer wrote:This evening your oven door exploded without warning, it wasn’t even on (see photos attached).
I was cooking on the hob which is as you know completely separate from the oven and i heard a large bang and felt something hitting my legs. When I looked down i saw all the glass and oven door shattered into a thousand pieces.

My 2 daughters were in the room with me and one was at the kitchen table with my 9 month old baby who is usually in her walker by my feet was in her highchair. Thank god my daughter was in her high chair because she is always at my feet and if she had of been there would have been a much more serious outcome.

I want Amica to explain why this happened, how this happened, issue a recall for these ovens and also issue an apology.
Someone could have been seriously injured here and thank god this wasn’t the case in my household.
Once we remove this oven we can provide the serial number and model number but i am sure you are are that regardless this should have never happened and you can see clearly your brand name on the appliance.

I look forward to hearing from you very soon before I take this further.

    It came with photos…

Pretty clear cut, oven door went pop. Not exactly unheard of.

Now, you see that ruddy great white thing stuck to the front, that’s a child safety lock thing she’s stuck on there. Which set me to thinking, what’s that on the deck?

Turns out, it’s a stick on child safety panel that some company does for ovens now. It sticks on the front by way of suction cups to stop little kids from getting burned. So they say anyway.

Ka-ching. Sell something people don’t really need.

Problem is that it can create a temperature differential in the glass, glass stresses and… BANG!

Company that makes the things don’t want to know, never happened before, our products are completely safe and can be used with any oven.

Have they tested that? Somehow I seriously doubt it.

I wanted to suggest training your kids to keep away from the hot things, could be a plan or, put a kid lock on the kitchen door, instantly all appliance safety issues in relation to kids is solved. Apparently though, that’s a wrong attitude to have. 😕

Now this nutter’s been banging on about this all over the place.

But here’s the real kicker of it all apart from the fact she modified the appliance…

It’s eight years old! Yup, eight years old the damned part is obsolete now.

    But, where there’s blame…

I didn’t respond to that one Martin, merely advised.

Amica were actually really decent about it and tried to come up with a door for her, which they’d have given the lady FOC most probably but anything further was a non-starter.

The crazy continues though as we think she’s had legal advice and been to TS and we suspect that both have told her she’s got not a cat in hells chance of getting anything. So, she just screams and screams. I wouldn’t be slightly surprised if she ends up whining on here.

Got another one last year that went, the woman claimed that she got cut and managed to produce this photo of what looked to be a pimple on her leg. Usual story, could’ve killed the kids, torn my leg off and other such ludicrous statements.

She goes off to an ambulance chaser and they want to sue for thousands and thousands of pounds. Of course, with the offer of a huge discount if the company chooses to settle early.

Whilst all these usually get kicked to the kerb, they cost a lot of time and money to deal with as some of these people are, quite honestly, completely barmy IMO.

Re: Here’s To The Crazy Ones

I had a customer with a ceramic hob free standing cooker, trying to claim against the manufacturer for a new hob and damages as the hob cracked when she was cooking and she got splashed with boiling water.

The manufacturer sent me in to investigate the reason for it cracking.

Above the hob was fitted units and stored in the units was tined food.

The customer had opened the unit and a tin of beans had fell out onto the hob.

I advised this was not covered by the Warenty and she would have to claim from her household insurance and she said she was not insured and the appliance should be made to withstand tins falling on it.

I phoned the manufacturer from site as she refused to pay for my visit they paid me and sent her a bill for my visit.

She told them on the phone she was going to trading standards as it was not fit for purpose.

I do not no if the men in white coats have collected her yet

That’s the thing though and it’s getting worse!

I actually almost said to a punter the other day that, “No sir, you’re warranty doesn’t cover you being an idiot, you’re cat stuck up a tree or anything else that doesn’t involve an electrical or mechanical failure due to a manufacturing defect.” I was oh so close with this nut bag.

He had about £2.50 worth of change pulled out his pump and didn’t see why we should’t pay to sort that for him. Even although he was told before he even logged the call to check it!

The volume of completely unreasonable people with zero common sense out there is unreal.

We’ve done the same on occasion now as well though Bob, billed the customer direct and paid the engineer for the call but that too can cause problems with retailers as they just go whining to them randomly quoting excerpts they fancy from the SoGA.

canufixit wrote:[attachment=0]me NO you have shut something in the door,

Yeah, like a rat sized something! But then, isn’t rat or mouse damage covered under guarantee? 😉

Thing is that until manufacturers grow a set and, pardon the expression, like the car manufacturers and get these idiots in line, we all suffer IMO. Of course, that is just my opinion but when you actually lay it out for them they tend to get it, most of the time other than the really loony toons ones.

The classic is, after a year or six that they want a full refund.

Yeah, show me Ford, Toyota, Honda, Vauxhall, Renault, Bentley, Porsche or any other car maker give anyone a full refund, ever. Even after two days let alone two years.

    Or a brand new car.

If you think that’s gonna happen, you’re dreaming.

    The same legislation applies.

I’m sorry, this stuff really winds me up and I do go off on one about it because in almost every case, it’s the loopy customer’s own fault.

But then customer service these days seems to be a lot about appeasing the lunatic fringe in society. Perhaps we’re an extension of the care in the community system, who knows?

Re: Here’s To The Crazy Ones

I had a customer who had a samsung American style fridge freezer for just over two years and Samsung refused to repair it as she did not have proof of purchase.

Samsung told them it was four years old by the serial number.

It was an RS21 and the heater had failed.

I fitted a new heater and it worked perfect for 4 years.

I recently had a call to it as the customer had a problem with the water not dispensing.

The water was frozen in the pre cooler in the fridge as the insulation in the back panel was u/s and I advised her it needed a new back panel.

She complained to me I had only repaired it a few years ago and as I had taken the panel off to fit a new heater it must be my fault and should repair it free of charge.

I charged her my call out fee for the inspection and advised her as she was unhappy that my first repair only lasted 4 years she should find an alternative repairer to repair it.

Her husband phoned me 2 months later and said the water had frozen again and asked for a refund of my call out fee as I had not fixed the problem.

I politely told him to find an alternative repairer as his wife was not happy with my repair 4 years ago and declined my cost to repair the fault and it was an inspection charge.

He said he had tried to but no one in the area would fix a Samsung Fridge Freezer.

I then advised him to phone Samsung and he replied I tried them but they wanted too much to repair it.

I then said to him this was not my problem and as he was unhappy with the service I give he should pay Samsung to repair it.

He replied I have looked on the net and these Samsungs are crap I am not paying that sort of money on a crap Machine if it keeps going wrong I am going to scrap it.

He then just slammed the phone Down.

    Another satisfied customer.

I replaced a wiring loom on an old Hygena (Brandt) dishwasher this afternoon, and the customer’s wife said they should report the failure to the manufacturer as the wiring should have stood up to wear and tear, whatever its age (16 years). I did point out that MFI went into administration 4 years ago.

A lot of it comes down to the fact that people have zero money. The stress of not having a single penny drives them to this. It is the only way of getting something essential fixed. The amount if people I go to who say they don’t have £50 or £60 until the next pay day. Its scary!

I find the worst are the office types who live in large houses and mortgaged to the hilt,a whiff of a claim and there on to it. Im currently dealing with a scratch on a stone floor that could be argued that both the engineer and the householder are equally responsible for as the householder gave the engineer a hand lifting out a cooker and it was his end that got scratched .However as a reputable company we try and help them out sending a floor restoration expert who can repair it for £250 which we will pay for .Received a quote for £2600 the other day from the customer for ripping up the floor and relaying a new one,as he doesnt think the repair will look right all this for a scratch around 6 inches long. Just crazy . Cras.

I was in Bekolandia yesterday. I was on my phone in the garden on hold whilst the client was talking/hanging over the 5 foot fence to the neighbour about the new council fence they had last year is now getting loose and they should fit a better one. This client appeared to be no stranger to unhealthy food and im sure the fence is not designed to take the weight of a jobless lard arse. A question has been in my head for a while now and i think l got the answer yesterday, Beko and other budget appliances are always on insurance because unlike working people the benefit cheats are the only people with enough cash to afford the cost of insurance.

we do have a culture of free loaders who want stuff done for nothing , they are used to taking things back to tesco- asda etc – also the benefit mob like lee said they have teams of liberal tree hugging hippy social workers , care workers children with this that and the other wrong with them who sponge of the system – bleed it for all its worth whilst receiving everything thats going …including foc repairs when they have misused appliances etc

just found out the other day if your on benefits and have a pet you now get a weekly allowance for pet food

WHO IS THE CRAZY ONES ??
