Participantgolden oldie w/d.
called to this one, customer reports w/d trips on progs 5 and 6.
tried prog 4…ok. water in, motor action, heater, drained, spun.
tried prog 5..ok for about 10mins then trips out.
sugested customer trys different progs, she says 5 trips, 6 trips, fast wash trips. but drain and spin ok. i know it sounds like timer, any other ideas as the cust is really fond of w/d and wants it fixed. i said it may be obsolete…is it?
thanks

Hi,
just about to send mine to the scrap after 18 years . All electrics ok so if you want some parts let me know.
Strange fault and could be anything but have you checked motor brushes and meggered the element? Also may be a slight leak.Rob

try testing heater after it trips i think this is very similar to the old servis quartz .dos not start to heat afterfill .you can use the old type hotpoint heateras long as you fit toc in heater tube.

customer rang today..prog 4 fine allthe way through no probs…prog 5 tripped out. suggested as the machine was family friend that if the wash results were satisfactory on prog4 they should run it until it finally dies. would i be right in thinking spares for this golden oldie are like hens teeth?

Spares……..
Hotpoint brushes, Hotpoint heater with the sleeve in, “adapt” a Hoover pump to fit, Logic belt, Eaton valves if you need to pop a solenoid valve on, pattern bearings and door gaskets still about, EMW and QER still repair the board – it’s rust and drum pulleys that kill these off.

Richard,
Trouble is that prog 5 is fast spin and prog 4 is slow so she may have to do a spin but on these it involves a rinse and spin as no spin only prog.
Rob
Ps would only use the real Servis element on this as the element on these is resting almost on the plastic tub whereas the hotpoint has the metal plate is under the element and I have seen a melted tub with the hotpoint one. The Servis one has two cut outs on it just for this reason. I have one if you need it.August 10, 2007 at 7:44 am #223568richardable
