i have a creda gas hob which my wife cleaned when she put the gas rings back(wet) the piezo hasn’t stopped clicking one every 30 seconds or so but getting longer between clicks ,if i turn the gas rings on it will ignite them without me touching the ignition button, when i do press the ignition button it clicks faster like it should do and ignites thee rings in the normal way.

First thing to do is to switch the electric supply to your hob OFF.

It appears that your wife has used excess water when cleaning it and has soaked the electronic spark generator assembly.

Leave the hob switched off for about 7 days then turn back on and you should find it has dried out,if not then you have the option to have the ignition ass replaced or buy a handheld ignitor which is the cheaper option.

I have to advise that under no circumstances should you try to access and repair yourself.

😀 I had the same problem with my homark. The first reply is correct. However, I did speed up the drying process by unscrewing the spark button and putting a COOL hairdryer through the tiny hole – witihin 5 minutes it stopped sparking and now works perfectly. P.S DO NOT use a hot hairdryer – fry your wires. PPS make sure the oven electrics are turned off before attempting.

    Good luck

This posting is a little old now but as ‘docb’ has awakened it. So I would add that the best way to dry out ‘flooded’ sparkers is to light each ring with a match. Place saucepans of water on each ring for 5 minutes then turn off!

You will find that way the sparkers dry out quickly and will work normally again 😉

Good advice all – is there any chance of getting a shock or worse still any kind of explosion with a massively coincidental gas leak?

    James,

We take gas leaks very seriously and would not offer our free advice without pointing out to you that if you are the least bit concerned about your gas hob, do please contact one of our ‘Corgi Registered’ repairers.

Flooded sparkers should not affect or involve any gas leaks and the risk of electrocution minimal under normal operating practices. Do not attempt any repairs or inspections beyond what we have suggested.

Yes, if there’s even a whiff of gas get a competent CORGI registered gas engineer immediatley and isolate the appliance from the gas mains, you should have an accessable isolation tap fitted. Quite simply, it’s not worth the risk of any other course of action.
