Hole in washer-dryer door seal – is it supposed to be there?

I have a Miele WT 2780 washer-dryer, about a year old. Yesterday I noticed that there is a hole in the bottom centre of the door seal (I was retrieving some sock clips which had ended up in the door seal). I have never noticed this before, although I’m not sure I have looked.

Is it a drainage hole, or is it a hole from damage? I can see something white in the hole, perhaps this is the end of a drainage pipe? The reason I’m not sure is that the edges of the hole are a bit jagged. Please see attached picture. However the washing machine was used yesterday and ran without fault, as far as I know.
