problem
ParticipantHi
Maybe somebody can help ?? I have a Homark double fitted oven model no. 700306 and recently the last twice I used it the food is burnt to a cinder, it seems that despite setting the temp the oven is cooking at FULL, its even setting off smoke detectors when I open the door the heat is that strong!!
Can anybody explain why it is constantly on FULL, it seems also that the first 15-20 mins of cooking the oven is the correct temp then all of a sudden goes on full, the other time though it went straight to full.
Any advice ??
Much appreciated.

Almost certainly a faulty thermostat and I`m sure this site could supply you with the part if required. If you`re looking for an engineer to do the complete job for you try the repairs@ link on the left of this page.
If you do decide to investigate further power off please :zap:

Hi
Thanks for the advice, I was sure this would solve it, but it seems not, fitted new thermostat and seemed to work OK initially at low temps, turned up to 200c fan and this just stayed on constanlty, tried low temps again and excactly the same, now back to old tricks, when it is hot heat stays on, when it is cold heat doesnt come on, what is noticable is the clicking of the electrics wanting to switch on and off, but heat doesnt go on/ come off. This is really audible but nothing happens to element when the click/ message is sent.
Really strange problem can anybody help please it is getting near christmas !! 😥
Problem ( big one………)

Is the temperature indicator light going on and off when this happens ?

That really is a strange fault 😕 Engineer time I would suggest.
Lets go back to basics , if you switch on oven and set thermostat to 120C , does the oven reach this temperature and the stat click when temp. achieved ❓ Fan obviously will continue to run but temp. should not rise significantly.

Hi
THanks for your tips so far;
Dave, in reply – when the stat/ electrics click ( temp achieved ) NO the temp indicator light continues to glow indicating heat still going thru the element, which it is !! Like I say, the electrics and stat seem to be doing their job the message just aint getting to the element………
Bryan, in reply, back to basics – when oven is turned on to say 120 the element comes on and temp indicator light, when temp is reached the stat clicks but oven continues to heat and temp indicator light still illuminates. I must admit when I first tried with new stat it was working fine at temps this low, on and off, but since I tested at 200 it has just returned to its old self, even at low temps.
Everything seems fine, bar the message reaching the element. The continental thermo I purchased was universal with two fittings, I guess the two wires leading from the oven controls go simply the same way onto this universal thermo as the old one ?? ie. right hand side goes onto nearest pin on thermo and left hand side goes onto nearest thermo pin at that side ?
Help, any more advice appreciated !! 😥

You’d need the correct test equipment, if the element has failed to earth the only solution is a replacement.
I really think it’s time for an engineer on this one to be honest 😉
Check the repairs@ link below 🙂

Thanks Dave
Its just a lot of money for an engineer, when it may just be a new element, is it worth trying a new element before calling the engineer ? I am though loathe to shell out again having just purchased a new thermostat, which is now looking like not the cause of the fault.
What do you think ?

Most engineers are booked up days in advance this time of the year so it’s getting a bit late if you try an element and that doesn’t work.
While you may consider an engineer an expensive option you would not have bought uneccessary spares and the job would have been done days ago 😉
Your call really 😀
Dave.
