Came back from camping trip to warm beer .My only 2 year old chest freezer with external thermostat fitted to control the temperature at 12 degrees isn’t cooling anymore the compressor is still working can hear gas bubbling inside coils when i open the lid but sides are not freezing. Not sure if it could be a gas leak or air lock in freon line wondered about turning upside down would fix problem .I know that using freezers for beer coolers has a lot of problems with condensation rusting gas lines. But thought i would still get more than 2 years out of it. Does it look fixable at a reasonable price Cheers . Bobsbrewery needing some cool beer

    Hi Bob,

Nope, turning it upside down is a very bad idea indeed.

I’m assuming that this is some sort of homebrew mod that you’ve carried out to maintain +12oC? Not something I’d advise in all honesty and a beer/wine coolers are pretty cheap these days.

Anyway it sounds like a possible system choke but there again where it’s been modified I’m afraid it’s all guesswork. If it is needing anything done with gas then it will be a specialist job, it cannot be done DIY.

    Hi

The compressor and system of a chest freezer is not designed to operate at fridge temperatures , posibily valves in compressor have failed. So not pumping at correct pressures.
