Turned the machine on (Hoover 8164D), it stays on for around 7 seconds until it just begins to try and spin then trips power in house. Tried again, same thing.
I opened the back panel and disconnected the motor unit. Now the machine will stay on after 7 seconds and doesn’t trip the power.
Checked all the wires and seem fine. I replaced the motor unit with a working one and it trips again after 7 seconds. Completely lost now>

Yes. I also checked the carbon brushes on the motor unit and they are nearly brand new, hardly any wear at all. I bought the machine last year but only installed it 4 months ago.
Needs testing for earth leak then somewhere. Earth leak test meter (aka a Megger) the best tool to suss it out quickly. Motor is the obvious first call. 😉
Was it ever stored in a damp garage or shed whilst not in use, by the way?
I’ve bought a new machine now, as it was quoted as over £100 to fix.
One problem left, is there an emergency way to force the door open on the 8164D. I have some clothes left and and can’t get them out. There is no water in the drum.
