ParticipantHello,
Annual appliance blow up occurred a little early this year. This time my Hoover AA1100 Easy Logic washing machine suddenly started a loud whine on spin, there was an electrical pop, a smell of burnt electronics and the machine went dead. Smell emanates from the motor so think I have killed yet another machine. Comment/suggestions welcome. No guarantee came with this machine, by the way. Probably going to buy another washer – recomendations? Many thanks. 🙁March 19, 2007 at 8:14 pm #208263Penguin45

Drive motor sounds like a good bet – typically £85-95 to buy. Would need correct model number to identify accurately.
Replacement – Bosch always a good bet; Zanussi and Whirlpool aren’t bad. This is good:

I suppose that the old adage “You gets what you pays for” has never really been so true.

Hello,
Thanks for replies. As I stated originaly, I have no guarantee with the Hoover as it was bought off eBay – no idea of the age of the machine although it doen’t look that old. I have replaced motors before only to have them blow up again immediately – what the inbuilt self-destruct mechanism is, I don’t know. I am suspicious about having a machine repaired as it has been my experience that as soon as you change one part something else invariably goes wrong soon after. Call me pessimistic but I have no faith at all in modern white goods. The one ray of sunshine in my household appliance gloom is my Bosch dishwasher. This has managed to survive 2 years so maybe I’ll try one of their washing machines next time!! -
