    Hi,

My mum’s Hoover “Excel” 1100 washing machine (cheap machine, £250 in 2000 – possibly Co-op exclusive model), AC327, is experiencing a random problem when spinning. 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it completes the cycle OK. Other times the machine will attempt the spin and fail miserably.

When it fails, it sometimes decelerates; then attempts to tumble. During the tumble, there is a sound of ‘twanging’ – as if the drive-belt is being stressed. This can occur on the final spin (laundry comes out noticably wetter), or during the intermediate rinse/spin phase (machine times-out and advances to next rinse).

Motor carbon brushes check out OK.

    Any ideas?

Check on the type of load when the fault occurs, almost all modern machines use the electronics to check if the load is to far out of balance, if the machine senses that this is the case the machine will not spin. often occurs when the user hand washes, then attempts to spin a large jumper or similar, or tries to wash a small load with a single heavy item, can also happen when washing a load with one large item and several small items.

No, this is not the ‘out-of-balance’ sensor operating. Machine has a good load, but not overloaded. It even does it on a ‘maintenance wash’. 😉

Sludge in the water level control is a reasonable bet…….. partial blockage can make the system a bit erratis when it comes to spin.

    Power off if investigating, please.
