Hoover acm 15 washing machine spin problem

our Hoover model ACM 15 washing machine will not go into spin mode all it does is rotate clockwise for a short while then anti clockwise for a short while the water pump keeps running at the same time then the machine shuts down if i re power the machine it does the same thing again. when i put it on a was program it wont take in water again just the drum goes round as above ….any help please

First thing to check would be the motor carbon brushes.

would the motor not turn at all or try and wash cycle?

It will do a wash, but wont spin if brushes are worn.. Get them repalced and you should be ok.

heaters probably down to earth

sorry to sound stupid but what do you mean heater down to earth?
the heater is heating the water up ok, and the earth wire is connected to the nut shaft on the heater via the nut and washer on the end of the earth wire

fitted new brushes but still not working the machine seems to not want to go into the rinse cycle and take in water or go into spin mode just empties the water from the short wash cycle then spins clockwise then anti clock for about 10/15 seconds each way then the drain pump kicks in empties the water and keeps rotating the drum as above for about 2/3 mins with the drain pump running then shut off. the red main indicator light stays on
seems like trouble in a tin box bring back the good old mandle rollers and dolly tub

At the back of the motor is a tacho coil..easily identified by two leads coming from it… Take this off,underneath is a magnet..check this is not spinning freely on the shaft..if it is tighten it…

If this fails you need to test the tacho coil,see how u get on with magnet 1st

thanks will check that i have checked the filter it is clean as a whistle. the only fault is with the drain pump it makes a noise when running but it has been like that for ages and the machine ran ok… makes me wonder if the manufactors program
a shut down seqence into the eprom to make them go out of sync so you have to buy a new machine otherwise they would never sell them if they ran for years i take it you mean the magnet on the motor shaft and not the outer black ring on the tacho

You need to Megger the heater for earth leakage as previously advised by helo_75
