hoover AE130-001 control fault?

Complaint was stuck on wash for hours with three flashing dashes in display but could get it to spin.

Set to wash and could hear the timer clicking inside. took an age to start, filled, started washing but display is showing three flashing bars.

Managed to cancel with great difficulty, eventually got it to drain and spin. display shows correct countdown time on spin.

Whatever you set it on it seems to take far to long to actually start any programme.

Heater & valves OK, does this sound like a duff control unit?

I don’t think so Jim, they do take an age to reset it’s true so I would rule the programmer out at this stage. The 3 bars usually indicate door switch/connection problems though? The door interlock prone to wear etc etc. 😉

Would the machine start and wash, drain & spin if the door lock was faulty, this one appears to have the old type New wave/Softwave pecker type of door lock.

If the connection is intermittent Jim then I’m sure it would. All the while ‘Hoover’s 3 bar indication’ means that no contact is made (somewhere?). My guess? Interlock? 😉

The three bars is the machine assessing the load / cycle. It does take along time for the correct time to appear on the wash cycles. (10 to 15 mins is not unusual).

Now that you’ve managed to reset the cycle have you tried running a wash cycle. There’s a good chance it will work.

The previous fault, long wash time, may have just been a blip.

Hi Jim

Was a while back when these first came out I used to train engineers on them.
This was Hoovers first Fuzzy logic auto, the three bars flashing is when its working out how big the load is, which it calculates by the amount of times it tops up as clothes absorb the water, then it should display the time to end. Thats why, when you select spin it shows time to end right away.
When you select a prog and start it will take a while, as it has a cam advance motor turning the timer to the selected prog.
It should cancel easy by pressing the start button untill you hear a series of bleeps think its 6. If you release the start button too quick, it goes into pause. (3 beeps)
I might have some old notes on them somewhere if needed, but to me it sounds like the timer/module faulty.

Thanks for all the replies, I held the start button in for over six seconds to no avail. She did say that it has done this a couple of times, washing away for over three hours once.

The three bars stay there even when there is no load in the machine to soak up any water.

It can still take a long time for the time to come up on the display even when empty.

I remember when I was selling these I was concerned how long it took for the display to come up.

Anyway if it still hangs on the cycle and the cycle is taking too long then it can only be the control unit at fault.

Just spoken to the customer on the phone, this machine has been doing this for months now, sometimes it will work perfectly, other times it just sticks there for hours.

I feel an ISE opportunity on the horizon. 🙂
