ParticipantHi guys
Hoover AM120 isn’t spinning or agitating when a cycle is selected. What is happening though is that it spins at high speed for the period when it should agitate but won’t spin in it’s cycle to remove the water from the clothes (hope that makes sense !). I’ve changed the brushes but the symptom remains. I’ve also checked the pump for obstruction (but not with a torch to peer into it).
Is there anything else I can check please?.
Thanks v muchdjkj

Take the motor off and have a look at the back end. There is a device called a tacho, a round magnet on the motor shaft with a coil round it mounted to the motor casing. Sometimes the magnet breaks or comes loose or the fine windings in the coil get broken.

Thanks Phidom
It’ll be a couple of weeks before I can take another look at it but I’ll report back when I do.
Thnx for the advice 😀

I’ve now had chance to check the tacho and there is a hairline fracture to it. I’ve removed it – they seem easy to replace being splined, where can I get one from please ?
Thanks for your assistance in finding the fault

When you say you have removed the tacho, do you mean the tachometer coil or the small, round magnet?
Magnet not usually available as a spare part, a couple of different motors used on these machines, what make is the motor?
Old, scrap motors are the usual source of magnets within the trade.

Hi iadom
It’s the magnet I have removed to view the fracture. I’m happy to purchase the tacho as a complete assembly – as for the make of the motor, I’ll have to come back to you and post when I’m next able to.

Neither tacho coil or magnet is available as a spare part these days.
Salvaging one from an old motor is your only real chance apart from buying a complete motor. 😥
