Hoover AM120 stopped mid cycle

Switched off, moved dial to spin, switched on, it span and pumped out water. Removed clothes, switched on and no door locked light. Took door switch off and the white plastic bit that should push the black rod of the switch downwards doesn’t go anywhere near it when you shut the door ( tried switch on door catch whilst it is out of the machine).
If I hold the rod down then the door light comes on but washer still sits there no matter where I put the dial.
About 6month back the dial started going round on it’s own but that was cleared by powering off/on again. It’s been used almost daily for 6/7yrs and has only needed new brushes, is this the end ?

Door lock will be knackered. They’re not repairable but new ones are relatively inexpensive. Part you need will be this: –

It’s possible it may have blown the module as well if it’s not doing anything else even with lock registering, carefully remove module and check for damaged components visually and with multimeter. If all looks clear probably worth chancing buying an interlock and seeing it it fixes it, forcing switch will probably not be making a good connection.

Please note it’s extremely inadvisable to be testing the lock or trying to run the machine whilst it is plugged in, people get killed doing this. Use a multimeter instead. One slip and either you could be shocked or your module will be toast, neither of which is good.

When attaching the new interlock detach one wire at a time from the old lock and reattach to the new one, it’s a common mistake to detach all the wires from the old one and then forget which order they are connected for the new one :).

Thanks, before I get a door lock, are there any other ‘lockouts’ ? e.g. overheat or pressure that would stop it running with the door lock light on ?.

Looking at the picture on the spares link you sent I think a bit is missing off my switch which is why the latch no longer touches the actual switch.

There are many things than can stop it working, but these will normally stop the machine when it gets to the part of the cycle where it is needed, e.g. fault with heater will cause problem when it gets to heating up the water, pressure switch with filling, etc. If the machine won’t start at all 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it’s interlock, otherwise normally faulty on/off switch or a handful of other faults. But, as I said, damaged interlocks are prime candidates for blowing PCB as well.

It wasn’t the door interlock, after staring at it for ages I realised it works by trying to close the switch when powered on, the latch with an open door stops it, when you close the door the little black arm drops down and stops the latch being opened, if power is removed then it stays locked untill it cools down then lets you open the door, f’in ingenious….

It is controlled by a fet on the module which tested ok so that left the processor on there, as power ( +18 -18 ) was present and a scope showed clock signals I gave up as I’ve no more info.

A recon module off the bay of E got it going again.

What was wrong with the old design with a timer full of contacts ? much easier to fix.
