ParticipantHiyas,
Been to look at a hoover with fault “not filling”.
Hot valve was open circuit so changed that out, also changed the cold valve for luck, didn’t have any though. 😆 Now it will fill with hot water but won’t take cold.
Select the program, switch on and the drain pump runs constantly (except program 2 where it takes in hot water).
Drain pump and circulation pump both meter ok as does the heater.
I’m thinking it’s the programmer/pcb at fault but as it’s on the pricey side thought I’d ask for some help.
Any thoughts? ideas? suggestion?
All help greatly appreciated.Brian 😀

Brian, send it to us with a note of the fault for a test at £5+vat inc return postage (same-day service of course). If we repair at £34.90+vat then we do not charge the test fee. Tony EMW, Millfield, NG25 0TD

Seen loads of these, never had this fault before. Has someone had a go themselves and put the connectors or wires in the wrong place? Perhaps Dave Conway could send you the wiring chart first. Have you tried individually disconnecting valves, pump, heater, motor etc to see if fault persists? (Even though you say they test ok).

Don’t think anyone’s had a go at this one. The spiders webs were undisturbed.
Haven’t tried disconnecting individual items. Did hook the meter up to the inlet valves and tried machine. No mains voltage at either valve (other than hot valve on program 2). Trace wiring through spider city and appears to come direct from pcb on timer.Brian

As far as i’m aware the hot valve is only used on the number 2 programme. Cold valve only on all other programmes. I was thinking somehow 240volts for the cold valve was going to the drain pump, as in someone had switched wires on timer. what happens when you put it on a number 7 spin? would be interesting if the cold valve came on?

On 7 the pump runs and machine spins. I spent a fair bit of time on this one trying everything I could think of. Even went as far as stripping the pressure system and washing everything out.
Racking my brains here (not a lot of them though) and not coming up with anything logical. Would a faulty pressure switch give this problem?Brian

If it fills on number 2 and not on 3 etc then the pressure switch must be ok, as there is only one pressure switch. Try swapping the power supply to the hot valve to the cold valve and see what happens on the number 2 programme. This will at least prove the cold valve is definitely ok.

It’s not by any chance one of those weird faults where a water valve solenoid coil goes short circuit and the pump gets 240v because they’re wired in series as a flood protection system, is it?

megger the heater and motor, an insulation fault on this machine will give all sorts of strange symptoms

Thanks Martin, superb info that’s sure to be invaluable and will probably lead me to the fault, you’re a star.
Thanks for the advice Simon, unfortunately I’ve already meggered the heater, motor, bit and pieces, whole machine and I can’t find anything other than the open circuit hot inlet valve.
Thanks for you help too tim, the cold valve definitely works. I tried the hot valve supply on it. Problem I’ve got is there is no supply to the cold valve. It appears to be routing to the pump.
Interesting theory there Mike but I would have thought that by changing the valves this would “reset” this protection?
Thanks to all of you, you’ve certainly given me some more avenues to explore and a headache to boot. 😆

This machine has well and truly done my head in.
Went back to it, checked everything again, tried hot valve wiring on cold valve and water came in. Tried cold valve wiring on hot valve and water came in, baffled now as I couldn’t detect any voltage on cold fill wiring previously.
Put the wiring back the way it should be and everything worked. No broken wires, no dodgy connections, just don’t understand it at all.
No doubt this one will recall soon enough but at least my sore brain is getting a rest.
😆
Thanks to all for the help and suggestions.Brian
