I always had a soft spot for Hoover washing machines. I was a Hoover sales dealer for many years, and specialised exclusively in repairing Hoover automatic washing machines for the first 15 years of my career. Even then, after starting to deal with Hotpoint washing machines Hoover continued to be my favourites, which I believed were made very adequately for the money they cost and were pretty reasonably priced to repair. Not too much unlike the aspirations of the ISE brand these days.
When candy took them over (what seems like many many years ago) now I was very disappointed and like many others in the trade began to tell customers the new Hoover washing machines were nowhere near as good.
I think it’s been long enough now that I should look at the possibility of reappraising my opinions on them. My mother has had a Hoover washing machine for the last 10 years or more and it hasn’t broken down once (washing for three adults). I’m wondering how much if any snobbery comes into play when thinking about Hoover’s forced marriage to candy.
Has anyone changed their opinion of Hoover washing machines of late? Have they not after all these years settled into a reasonably decent machine?

I have always sold Hoover and I can honestly say I have never had any reason to stop. (I’m in my 15th year of this trade.)
I sell around 100 to 150 new Hoover products a year and very rarely have issues / complaints to deal with.
In comparison I find in relative terms I have had more issues / complaints with the ISE machines I have sold.I must say I tend not to sell Candy machines as they don’t have the programme choice the Hoover machines do. For example a Hoover OPH147 machine has a 29 minute wash, 44 minute wash and a 59 minute wash. Whereas the equivalent Candy only has a 32 minute wash and its at 50 degrees.
I used to find Candy uglier than the Hoover as well, but not so much now.Will have to see how the new sealed drums go, at least the customer has a 5 years parts guarantee to fall back on.

No one seems to be disputing the idea Hoover machines are pretty decent these days so maybe it’s true.

Or nobody really cares as you get locked into using GIAS service for five years, or spanked up for parts. 😉

Parts aren’t any different to everyone else (except ISE) are they? What do you mean by locked in for 5 years? 5 year parts guarantee doesn’t lock anyone in, only suckers some people in and some probably even are better off using it at times.

K is as anti Hoover as you will find. I think he has past issues with them??
I find Hoover spares pricing better than most, also the five year guarantee does work well. Keeps machines going for longer than others.
I wonder when K last repaired a Hoover machine? Or is it just old grudges die hard? 😉

im not anti hoover… but the latest ones, with the selector integrated on the board are utter pants

I really detest Candy / Hoover stuff these days. Helo is right about the electronics, water ingress through the lid and the selector is directly underneath…POP!! What happened to the IPX4 rating?
The ribbon cables that chafe on the motor mounts…. PCB goes POP. Driers that require a full strip down just to change the capacitor….. Frost free fridge freezers that fail the moment your tail lights disappear?I was trained in a Hoover biased enviroment and then, (1980’s) yes, they were good. Noisy, but good. Their inherent simplicity and loads of features meant they were easy to sell and lasted even in harsh working conditions.
I’ll repair them, but definately wouldn’t recommend one today. 😥

on the side of the drum that you should be able to change, pipe runs off it to pressure switch, im guessing its molded to the drum?
