Hi – and what a brilliant website! Yeah, Hoover’s site is appallingly useless! So I’ve got an old Hoover, no manual, and it’s become a little smelly. So I’m trying to clean the filter – can’t find it – does it have one??!! Or d’you have any other suggestions – I’ve already run it through a cycle empty, and that improved it a bit. Thanks for our help, Yours hopefully…

Hi Jen, In answer to your first question, no there is no filter on this machine.
Now for the smell. Firstly, make sure you use a good quality detergent such as Ariel tablets,( use Ariel Color for dark colours) Own brand and cheap detergents, particularly liquids will cause smells when used consistently at low temperatures.

Avoid over using economy features and excessive low temperature washes. Try to do at least one hot 60° wash every week without economy or fast wash selected and once every five or six weeks do a maintenance wash, a small amount of detergent, no clothes and set on 95° wash.

Also make sure that if your machine is plumbed into the sink waste that the sink is not draining back into the washer.

Excellent article here plus lots of other useful advice. here
