Hoover Condensing Tumble Drier Problems – TCE660

When you press the start button often the m/c wont start. You can hear a buzz as the motor is energised and sometimes smell burning (well you know the smell a motor makes when it cant turn)….. Also when running there is a squeaking noise.

Is it most likely a knackered bearing leading to failing motor????

If so I assume it would be beyond economic repair? M/C is 6yrs old and I havent read good things about Hoover so I am not keen to spend much dosh fixing it…..

If replacement advisable I am thinking about a Zanussi TCE7227W (cant afford Miele stuff) as I have a Zanussi washer which seems well engineered. Only thing I cant understand is why new Zanussi tumblers dont have timer delay on them (I prefer to run @ night). Otherwise its £70 more for John Lewis model with timer (also made by Electrolux I understand). Or what about Whirlpool are they as good generally?

zanussi are one of the best dryers out there, quiet, well built, surdy and most of all reliable

whirlpools arent bad, but tend to be a bit rumbly

steer well clear of hotpoint/creda/indesit… ull know wot bother is if u waste money on one of them

Cheers helo you confirmed my (laymans) opinion. Last night I ordered a John Lewis condensing tumbler @ £350. Rationale for spending £70 more than Zanussi model is 3yr warranty inc and timer delay feature (I reckon running @ night will save circa £35 per year by my calcs). Understand the JL stuff is made by Zanussi (Electrolux / AEG group) anyway so it should be as well made…… My only slight long term reservation is sourcing parts for the JL m/c (I am sure they are standard Electrolux bits but it might be more effort to ID them)…..
