    Hi Guys,
new to this forum and discovered it AFTER I had purchased two parts from E-Spares…..sorry.
Problem was water leaking from below door of the machine – it is around ten years old.
Purchased bottom door seal and – after sussing out how to change it (not an easy task), did so successfully. By the way the seal did not look perished or burst on removal. However new one fitted!
    Still leaked.
Purchased complete goalpost seal for the door.
    This arrived today.
Now looking to fit it – apparent nightmare!
It looks like I will have to remove several parts of the machine to actually access the seal itself – NOT quite as simple as Mr “Smugo” on E-spares video indicated and demonstrated!
Can someone give me some advice. Please?
I already have the side panels and the top of the machine actually off – these 7mm screw-nuts are a pain and hidden all over the place!
I now see what appear to be side panels with yet more of these 7mm screw-nuts. Do they come off too -thus giving me access to removing the door seal – which incidentally, to the untrained naked eye, does not look too worn or perished either.

Testing if the “goalpost”, as you call it, is the reason for it leaking is simple. Just dry the door completely, especially the stainless inner door panel, first. Turn on the machine at let it wash for 10 or 15 mins (ish). Stop the machine, allow the water inside to settle for a few seconds before opening the door. If the seal leaks at any point then the stainless outer part of that door panel will be wet. Solution is to ensure first that the machine is level and that the cabinet is not out of true to the door. (As that would make it leak like a sieve). If not then maybe the inner door edge and the rubber seal are caked in limescale? (That would make it leak like a sieve too!) Level the machine, give the door and seal a good scrub and if it still leaks try fitting that “goalpost” seal. 😉

Oh, further thought, 10 yrs old now so most probably the hinges are worn and/or the door latch is dodgy (yep, you’ve guessed it already – that could also make it leak like a sieve. 😀 )

    Have fun!

Re: Hoover Crystaljet D820 serial number 32094005

    Hi Martin,

    appreciate all that.
The machine has operated perfectly for the previous 9.11 years / months and has not been moved so the levelling should not be an issue.
I had already moved on from your “test” advice and removed ALL the intricate / tricky / sneaky parts required to get at the door seal “goalpost” until the final hurdle. I removed the old seal – came away no problem, although It did appear to be silicone sealed????>
Now the problem….. how do I fit the new seal as there appears no way it can simply be pressed into place – like Mr Smugo at e-spares demonstrates – without removing the stainless steel side / top “clamps” and they appear (mebe I’m wrong) part of the whole stainless steel interior!!!!
I am also, at this stage, dubious that e-spares have supplied the correct part as it appears bigger than the original I have removed and the channelling is different too!
Like you say – I am having fun on a Sunday …….”Ma-InLaw” has made the offer of a new dishwasher but I am now at the stubborn stage and wanting to fix this one – for goodness sake it’s a water leak!!!!!!!!!!
Many thanks for your attention though it is greatly appreciated…..very surprised I can’t find ANYTHING on “tintertnet” about this make / model. No service manual / no help nowt!!!!
Even e-spares won’t offer any advice – “in case they are held liable”……..and Hoover don’t want to know – of course, they want me to take up “ma-In”Law’s” offer don’t they?? – if I do it won’t be a Hoover though. Despite it being of good service for around ten years I’d rather get one like “Mr Smugo” at e-spares demonstrated – that looks a cinch! Although I would feel there is a marked difference in demonstrating from an obvious brand-new machine to one that has been around the block for some time! The D820 is now lying in multiple parts…..I suppose knowing WHAT to do is the problem.
If you have any further info/advice – apart from “ma-In-Law” – please let me know. I am now a bit like a dog with a bone and my “male-pride” is also hurting a bit!!!!!

As far as I can recall on these old beasts the seal is merely a push fit. Once the old one is ripped out (it should NOT be glued in place) and the new seal soaked in soapy water first then it just pushes into place. Much like neoprene double glazing window seals and old car windscreens.

Love your mother in laws idea by the way, what’s not to like there eh! 😉

Wish it were that easy friend?
There is definitely some silicone or other fixative there too and I’ve had it since new!

Many thanks for your attention though!

I’ve made enquiries to Mr Hoover – I’ll keep you posted! IF I receive the courtesy of a reply?

    Hi

Check that the bottom wash paddle isn’t split round where its joined as these can split and cause a wash effect causing a leak.

    Hi friend,

thank you for your input and concern.
by the “wash-paddle” do you mean the spray spindle?

Many thanks…..Bill I’m still awaiting some response from Mr Hoover, on-one seems to know the model there?……so long as it’s not the J. Edgar type?????

Us ‘old boys’ use the term Spray Arm. A paddle is for canoes or in the case of old Hoover’s something else you may get up the creek with. :clown:

    Hi Martin,

you are correct it would appear – so far as Hoover are concerned – I am indeed up the creek without the proverbial “paddle” !
I have ALL the components off the machine now.
I had to remove BOTH side panels AND the top cover (hidden 7mm and one 5.5mm sneaky screw bolts abounding) all off the machine.
I have the two side and one top plastic surrounds which would appear to cover the seal. However there is no obvious way – unless I am missing the obvious – to refit the new seal without using some form of adhesive?
Alarmingly the old seal and the new seal also appear different ???????

Re: Hoover Crystaljet D820 serial number 32094005

Are e-spares not entirely “clever” at supplying the correct parts then?
Anyone know if Service Manuals are available to download – I only want the pages changing door seal?

Re: Hoover Crystaljet D820 serial number 32094005

The door seal should be 92130962. It should have an L shaped profile and is clamped but not glued in place by the top and side gasket ‘holders’.

Service manuals once were in book form though long since obsolete.

Re: Hoover Crystaljet D820 serial number 32094005

Yes that’s the part number supplied by e-spares but it is NOT the same as the one I removed from the door of the Hoover Crystaljet D820 .
I have tried “press-fitting” the new seal around the “goal-post” frame but either it’s wrong or I’m doing something wrong but I then can’t get the door shut!
BTW I wouldn’t rule out “I’m doing something wrong” !!!!!
There is also DEFINITELY some form of OLD “sealant” around the edges of the top and side gasket “holders”!

Gotta confess that I cannot help you with that. I gave up fixing Hoover rubbish years ago. Best of luck anyway. 😀

Have a chat again with your mum in law. 😉
