We have a Hoover DYN8164 washing machine and when the drum rotates past a certain position, you can hear a very slight clanking sound. This just started a few days ago.

Trying to figure out whether this could be down to an object stuck in there, or whether bearings have gone. The machine is 11 months old so still under guarantee but if it was a foreign object the guarantee would be void.

One other piece of evidence, now that I think about it, is that when we do a load of bedsheets/towels, which tend to get very heavy when saturated with water, the machine has also started making an extremely loud banging noise and it sounds/feels as if the drum is literally hitting the top of the machine and causing the machine to jump off the floor ever so slightly. (Not an issue when spinning at high speeds though as the higher force tends to keep the washing from moving around inside the drum so much.)

Is there a way to diagnose on my own whether there’s a foreign object or a bearing issue before we have an engineer out? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Drum paddle loose? Transit bolts not removed completely? Concrete counterbalance weight loose?

Transit bolts have been removed. How would we check whether the drum paddle or the counterbalance weight is loose? Sorry I’m a complete newbie!

If the three drum paddles are plastic then one may be loose (inside the drum they are). Concrete weight accessed with power disconnected and the top panel (lid) off.
