    Hi

    I have a Hoover DYN9164DPG, which keeps bringing up a E03 code.

Water drains OK from the washing machine into a bucket and I can see the water drain out of the drum, however the drain motor keeps humming and eventually times out.

I’ve replaced the pressure switch, blown down the pressure tube (there is resistance but air gets through) and replaced the drain pump, in this order. The drain hose has been removed and water flushed through. I’ve not removed the drum hose (the drum to drain pump hose) but it looks clear and I can just about reach through and touch the lip of the drum so there doesn’t appear to be any blockages there.

It seems the next thing I need to check & wash out is the pressure chamber, but I can’t see/reach it from the top of the washing machine as it’s mounted low down between the drum and the front of the machine. Is there a guide / video I can follow to take off the the machine front to inspect this?

If this doesn’t work, I guess I’m looking at a new logic board…

Does anyone have any more tips or suggestions I could try?

    Thanks in advance!

If you have access to a megger or a good quality multimeter then check the insulation reading on the heating element.

A heater down to earth on these is a very common cause of a spurious E03 error code.

    Thanks iadom,

I’ve purchased a 2nd hand PCB logic board last night from eBay for £20 so will give that a try. Worse comes to worse and it’s not needed, I’ll sell it onwards or keep it as a spare.

i don’t have a multi-meter but I think I know someone who does, so will have that looked at as well – thanks for the tip. I’ll be offline (holiday) in a week or so, so I won’t be able to post any updates soon but will post an update here so hopefully it will point anyone else with this problem in the right direction.

Don’t waste your time changing the pcb and risk making things worse. Just change the heater.

It ain’t the PCB so you’re already 20 quid down. As my colleague advises, just change the heater, that’ll sort it. And don’t buy it off eBay either. This website can supply, just go to the online shop.

Thanks all – just submitted an order cancellation via eBay. Hoping the seller will agree to that before he despatches it.

Seems very odd (and not logical) that the heater element could be causing a drain error code?!

Ain’t that the truth, but spurious electrical interference causes havoc with the logic board. Error codes therefore are only a guide and can lead you up the wrong garden path for sure!

Tell you what? Take the leads off the heater (be sure and insulate them) then turn on the machine. The E03 error should vanish thus confirming our suspicions.

Removed and insulated all the cables from the heater, but now get a 5 error code when attempting a drain cycle on the machine – guessing I need to leave some of the wires connected?

1 have 2 red spade connectors, a green/yellow spade connector and a white plug in total…

E05 is because you’ve disconnected the temp sensor plug.
Stop playing around with it & just replace the heater it will then be ok!!

Plugged the sensor back in, but leaving the red & yellow/green wires unplugged and the machine now completes a drain and slow-spin cycle instead of stopping with an error. Looks like the element is faulty!

Pity I didn’t get an error code suggesting this in the first place! 😀

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

NB. Re your supplementary question in your first post. To remove the front panel, first of all arm yourself with an angle grinder…………. 😆

Thought I’d post an ending to this thread.

Element was replaced although the old one really didn’t want to leave it’s home. Eventually managed to persuade it out and the new one went in very easily with help from some washing-up liquid. A couple of high temp washes along with a bottle of washing-machine cleaner and all test wash cycles all successfully completed without an error code.

eBay PCB board was refunded quickly and easily since they hadn’t shipped it by Monday so the 20 quid on that went towards the element.

Thanks to all for their pointers and suggestions. Hopefully this thread will help someone else in a similar position. I’ll know where to come next time I have to troubleshoot my white goods!

I’ve got a DYN 7144 with similar issues…… on a short 14min cycle it goes great… it fills, heats and empties but comes up with E03 before filling up for rinses everytime. I’m thinking it can’t be the heater as it heats…… any other ideas please?

slight earth fault on heater cause problems on some machines. It means it will still heat but still throws up fault codes
the earth fault is not big enough to trip RCD,s

same fault on some Bosch machines stops it from finishing the programme
