My 28 year old machine has stopped working. Nothing last these days does it! Never needed a repair in all that time. It’s the pump; water not leaving the machine. Not sure if these machines had a filter fitted but if they did the customer can’t get to it. Have just had the kitchen refitted which involved moving the machine about and I suspect a sock which managed to get into the outer drum about 5 years ago may at last have reached the impeller with all the shifting about of the machine. Question – Is there any possibility this machine can be economically repaired? If so where? who? I am in the democratic republic of Nottingham. Embarassed to go in and ask usual sources to repair a 28 year old machine.Too mean to buy a modern machine? So many of the reviews of current machines on the market indicate they are rubbish – cold fill only, take 2/3 times as long to do a wash, don’t rinse properly, always going wrong etc etc. As I say, more in hope but it’s worth a try.

Pump is easily accessible from underneath.

Mains plug out, tilt it back against a wall and shine a torch underneath.

You can see the pump towards the back left hand side, with a large corrugated black rubber hose going to it from the drum and another hose going out of the back of the machine.

Place a few towels on the floor and remove the black hose and you may find the obstruction in there.
TBH, its very unlikely that a sock has been in there for five years.

Any competent repairer should be able to sort that for you in half an hour at most.

Use the repairs@ facilty on the left hand side bar to find a UKW engineer in your area.

If you find an old engineer, you’ll probably make him very happy! 😀

Thanks Jim for your advise on this. If as you say it unlikely to be the remains of the sock after all this time and the pump is kaput can this be replaced and are there repairers who would work on a machine of that age. I’ve read on some sites that some quote as much as the price of a new machine to ensure they dont get the work. It’s not something I would do myself and risk flooding the kitchen the first time it was switched on.

or you used to get those black rubber drain hoses kinked when you pushed the machine back in.
i have fixed hoover machines older than that and the age shouldnt put repairers off.
