Hoover Fridge/Freezer. Freezer only cold at very bottom

Hi all,

Hoover Fridge/Freezer. Freezer only cold at very bottom. Fridge fine.
HOOVER N1B HNMF2805AAL

£340 back in 2006, so it’s getting on a bit.

Fridge is working with no problems.
Freezer however, noticed yesterday afternoon that anything in the top half of the freezer was defrosting.
Bottom was still frozen though.

Removed all contents and removed the inside backing panel.

Coils had a fair bit of ice on the very top of them but nothing too excessive I don’t think…
Fan, I’ve seen it running but doesn’t appear to run for that long, should it be almost constant?
When I checked this morning the fan wasn’t running

Any ideas?

Apart from the screws around the fan I can’t see anywhere else in there to check

Hi

It looks like you’ve got a restricted system that will need a refrigeration systems engineer. Going by the year also it’s charged with R134a.

Thanks Brian, someone has suggested I look underneath at the control module as it may have notes on how to test the defrosting system.

Here’s a recent picture showing the ice/frost build up at the top of the coils.
Don’t know if this is excessive or not? I cleared all of this yesterday afternoon

I hadn’t taken in the restricted system part.

If it’s definitely a case of having to call someone out I may just look at a new unit.
With call out charge + any parts needed I’m not sure it would be worth it on a fridge/freezer thats 7 years old.
Imagine that could easily come to being close to £100
