ParticipantWe have a month old Hoover integrated fridge freezer that gives off a loud popping / crack noise whilst it goes though the cooling period. Every now and then there will be a very loud crack or pop (a bit like plastic that is popping back into shape) or as some have reported it on other manufacture forums, a gun shot. I too have been woken up in the night too. At times it was happening every 45 mins.
I’ve tried:
– turning the temperature down / up
– turning the unit off for 12 hours (the pop happened about 1hr in after been switched back on)I have managed to get a couple of recordings of the noise, one via my mobile and one via the computer. Both were taken when no one was in the kitchen. I’m also sure the fridge freezer shouldn’t be as loud as it is. We have separate fridge (hotpoint) and freezer (zanussi) at the moment and these are no way near as noisy as this hoover.
We have had someone out today to look at the issue from Candy (as Candy and Hoover are now one company) however they just had a poke around at unit and the dam thing didn’t make the loud crack whilst he was here. We let him hear the recordings however he couldn’t work out what or where the noise was coming from.

I forgot to post the model number of the fridge freezer so here it is… BHBF182NUK.

A lot of the newer units do that and with many, there’s nothing you can do about it, it’s just expansion and contraction.

Here are the recordings of the noise..
In this version, it’s at 5.50 and 6.08..

https://drive.google.com/file/d/18A2thO … p=drivesdkI understand that fridge freezers expand and contract but this noise is unbearable and when watching tv it makes us jump.

It’s a thing with R600a systems primarily from what I’ve seen over the years and there are cures like injecting oil to the insulation round pipework and some other stuff that’s been tried but nothing seems to cure it.
Most any cabinet can demonstrate it and even getting another make, replacing it or whatever may well not solve the issue and, I’ve heard worse than in that recording.
Unfortunately, due to environmental stuff, you now cannot (or shouldn’t be able to) buy a non-R600 system.

So it turns out the fridge freezer has been damaged during manufacturing and this second engineer took one look at it and said yep thats beyond repair.
The whole back panel has come away from the unit.
Nothing that we have done and he is surprised that the first engineer didn’t spot it.
So much for saying screwing to the carcass. We are due to get a replacement fridge freezer.
