Wow, just checked and it’s over 5 years since I was here seeking advice from the fount of all washing machine knowledge!

Still got our trusty H160E but it’s just decided to go on strike.

My first thought was blocked or faulty drain pump, but drum was empty and I could hear it running. Double checked and removed a bit of fluff and gunge but nothing serious. Selected the drain drum setting and could see the impeller spinning fine with front cover removed, so not that.

Then tried a simple spin cycle but after the initial slow turn in either direction, it starts to spin but seems to “trip out” after reaching a fairly moderate speed. We usually run at 1600 rpm but it doesn’t even manage the lowest 600 rpm.

I’m suspecting maybe brushes (can’t recall when I last changed them, if ever). Haven’t dragged the beast out of it’s home to look at them yet but just thought I’d check on here to see if my suspicion seems reasonable. If so I then have to decide if I make yet another repair of this chap or decide it’s time to look for a new replacement.

    Any thoughts from the experts?

    Vic

Reckon you’re right Martin. Just hoiked it out and looked at the brushes… down to about 12mm long, only just reaching the commutator.
Fair bit of rust around inside the case from past leaks. Think I’ll fix it one more time and plan on a replacement next time. We’ve had it at least 12 years I realise!

Spot on Martin, thanks. Once again you helpful folks here on the forum come up trumps. Our old workhorse is now back in action.
    Cheers.
