This is a frost free fridge freezer. It has an air boost and this has always been a little noisy intermittently (is this just when the compressor runs at full power?), then a couple of months ago it started making a whining noise when this cut in – used to sometimes wake us up in the small hours. Then that problem disappeared and all was ok for a while, but lately the freezer compartment is not as cold – even if we put it on super for a day the top tray of 3 is not cold enough to freeze bread. lower 2 shelves do freeze but whole thing seems not to be as efficient. The air boost doesn’t seem to come on nowadays. Only 18 months old. Should I try defrosting for 24 hrs in case of ice build up somewhere, or any other suggestions please.

It’s certainly worth a try as nearly all frost free units will become overiced in time.

If that doesn’t solve it the noise would indicate a possible fan motor failure, probably the freezer one by the fault description.

Se what happens after the defrost and let us know 🙂

Eventually tried a defrost (12hrs). After powering back up seems same as before. it’s been on “super” for best part of 12 hrs – so fridge is currently colder than needed but freezer still not quite cold enough. just about freezes stuff in bottom 2 trays but top one not cold enough. Any further ideas please – or if engineer needed, any recommended for tewkesbury, Glos GL20. Thanks.

Engineer I think to be honest, have you tried the repairs@ link below ? 🙂

    Dave.
