ParticipantHello,
I have a Hoover HCF 5177W fridge/freezer. I’ve had it about 3.5 years and never had a problem with it, it looks brand new…
The fridge has been making a loud humming noise recently and has stopped freezing the food, it only chills it. I have put a thermometer in the freezer and it barely makes 0 degrees.
The freezer has been packed with food so I thought that may have been the problem with air circulation not being effective. The freezer has been mostly empty for 24 hours and it has made no difference, the food I left in the freezer still feels soft.
The bottom part of the fridge/top of the freezer feels warm. As the milk is stored on the inside of the door above this part its going off quickly and smelling bad.Do any of you know what could be the problem?

Is it warm at the back of the freezer? As in, does it feel as if there’s something heating up?

Thanks for the reply.
The back of the freezer feels slightly cold, at the moment the milk has been in there and does not smell off…yet.
The fridge is room temperature. Could it be gas needs replacing?

No, if the fan is running it’s more likely that the compressor is faulty.
Possibly one of the stats in the freezer but I would suspect the compressor as it’s not stuck on defrost by the sounds of it.

Is having the compressor looked at and repaired a big job?
I paid £330 for this Hoover fridge in 2010. Is it worth spending money on, or do I just buy another fridge? Is it better to have a manual defrost fridge, as from reading parts of this forum there seems less parts to go wrong?
On the Which? website Bosch KGV33NW20G gets a best buy review and is given a Best Buy m- what do you reckon?
“The Bosch KGV33NW20G fridge freezer has a roomy fridge with plenty of storage features, so there’s lots of space to pack away all the different types and sizes of food and drink you need to keep chilled. The freezer isn’t frost-free, though, so you’ll have to manually defrost it from time to time. We put this fridge freezer through our tough tests to see whether it keeps food safely chilled and frozen.
This Best Buy fridge freezer scored full marks in all of our temperature stability tests. Whether your kitchen heats up while you’re cooking or cools down overnight, this appliance will keep your food safely chilled and frozen.”

The one above is no good after doing measurements. Looks like I’ll have to stay with a 55cm width fridge.
Any recommendations?
