    Good Morning.

I have a Hoover HCSB 5172 WK/P Conventional Twin Evaporator Fridge / Freezer.

With the Thermostat sat at 2.5 out of 5. I am getting a temperature of 8 Degrees in the Fridge and -22 Degrees in the freezer (putting the thermostat at max I get around 5.5 Degrees in the Fridge and the Freezer is sitting almost at -30 Degrees). From advice in another forum I was asked to check how hot the compressor was to touch, the compressor was almost cold, from this I was advised that the issue was a thermostat issue and told to replace it, so I bought a new thermostat for this model and replaced it but it has not made any difference whatsoever, I was told it is not a gas issue as the compressor would be extremely hot as it would be on continuous duty trying to cool the fridge.

Any other advice before I go and buy a new Fridge /Freezer.

    Regards

be careful how you are measuring the fridge temp as there are many variables. the safest method is to measure the temp of a glass of water. that way your getting an overall average temp
temp can vary with where you put the thermometer as hot air rises. to how close you are to the evaporator. Add to that opening the door and things can vary a lot

    Hi Dave

Thanks for the reply, I had a mug of water in the centre of the centre shelf, I used an IR thermometer to measure how cold the mug was, the door was open for maybe 2 or 3 seconds max, I know generally the top and bottom of the fridge vary greatly as the bottom of the fridge will take some of the cooling from the freezer. The compressor itself is around ambient temperature.

refrigeration is not my area of expertise but as far as i know these sort of units pump refrigerant into the freezer first and any left over make it way to the fridge. The stat is in the fridge so when the fridge temp is low enough it switches off

    is the compressor stopping ?

Sounds like it is working fine, it depends on which thermostat Hoover fitted for that unit, as some do reach 6c or more to allow the back wall of the fridge to defrost, other manufacturers have a lower cut in temperature and give a lower fridge temperature as a consequence.

When I have checked the compressor has been running.

The issue is even turned on full I cant get the temperature to go below 5 Degrees and the freezer over cycles reaching temperatures exceeding -30 degrees.
