Hello. I have a Hoover (Candy) HDC6 dryer. A few weeks ago, the motor would stop as soon as you released the start button and a buzzing sound could be heard from inside whilst the button was held in and the motor was running.

I replaced the Motor start relay PCB with one purchased from sparesmarket.co.uk and the dryer worked fine for a week or so. Since then the same problem has occurred again. Not wanting to waste another 15 quid on a second relay PCB, I purchased just the relay for a couple of pounds (thinking that was the most likely component to fail on the PCB), got my soldering iron out and replaced it on the old board. I put that PCB back in the dryer, but the same problem still exists.

The motor runs fine (including reverse cycle) when the button is held in. There is no buzzing sound as there was initially, suggesting to me that the relay is probably OK.

Is there anything else that could be causing the problem, or indeed another fault that might be causing the relay PCB to fail? Is it worth replacing the other few components on the board, buying a new one or looking elsewhere for a fault?

    Thanks in advance.

    Tim

i have replaced several of these pcbs and never had one fail,
it can only be the pcb that is faulty, the part you we sold must have been faulty or not new.

    Hi Suedehead1,

Thanks for your reply. The new board I ordered worked fine when I first fitted it, but stopped working about a week later (motor only running when start button held in). I then replaced just the relay on the original board and put that back in, thinking that was the most likely component to fail, but that didn’t work either.

Anyway, I took the risk and ordered a second new relay PCB and fitted that and the dryer works fine and has been for the last week, so fingers crossed this has solved the problem. I guess I was just unlucky with the first one. Sparesmarket have refunded me for it anyway.

    Thanks,

    Tim
