ParticipantHelp! My Hoover HF40R Fridge/Freezer (red upright American style thing) has stopped working (only 3 weeks after I bought it second hand, grr). The power light comes on, but nothing else happens. The bulb is blown on the interior light so I don’t know if this works. But neither the fridge or the freezer get cold (or hot – when I first got it the freezer got VERY hot befor going cold). There is no noise. I have replaced the PCB (Hoover Candy part number) 97052955 with a supposedly new one from eBay (before I’d found this site)
Not sure what to do next? Can anyone help?
/Steve

It’s the correct PCB part number so that’s a good start 🙂
These will not kick in for several minutes after fitting to protect the compressor (it thinks it’s a new appliance). Leave the power on for an hour and see what happens 😉
If that doesn’t work, the PCB is duff I would say.
Power off when checking please
Dave.

OK I replaced the board and nothing changed, so had an engineer come and look at it. He also suspected the board, or possibly a temerature sensor at the back of the freezer. The board was sent back for testing and returned as being ok, and the temp sensor was replaced. Now, the defrost heaters come on and just seem to stay on – they get way too hot. My engineer is now going to source a wiring diagram and see what he can work out from there. The model is actually HF41R not HF40R.
Anyone have any ideas what on earth could be going on?

ParticipantReplace the evaporator thermistor and the thermal fuse (should be top right secured with a single screw.)
What normally happens is the thermistor short-circuits keeping the defrost heater on until the thermal fuse blows, then neither the heater or compressor will work.
If you have replaced just the thermal fuse, then the heater will power until it blows the thermal fuse again. That’s why you need to replace the thermistor that fits into the evaporator assembly also.
