ParticipantSome advice would be great.
This dryer was making a grinding and thumping noise. I inspected the jockey wheels, looks perfect but when I pulled the belt round to see if it is making the noise. Found the motor was feeling rough and dry. Culprit is the motor.
Owner had this machine second hand for 5 years, she is a hairdresser and used it extensively. First time she called out for repair, not bad eh? considering I am used to Indesit dryers less than 2 years old.
She asked if it is worth repairing possibly partly recondition her machine, I seem to think so providing I replace the motor kit and heater (original heater is fine but it’s 5 years old), she should get plenty of use out of it. Would that be worthwhile option than buying a new dryer? I looked at the timer and pcb relay costings, not a bad price considering Hotpoint and Indesit charges more for it.
Other thing I am not aware of drum bearing failures, I do know it can fail but it is more pronounced in Indesit rather than Hoover.
Correct me if I am wrong and what do you think?

Chances are if the motor bearings are knackered then it’s pretty certain the drum shaft bearing is in poor nick. Also belt jockey pulleys wear out so best to fit them too. The good news is, you can often get away with just greasing the front duct pulleys whilst your in there. 😉

Cheers. So basically I can give her a decent overhaul on the dryer with new motor, pulleys, drum shaft bearing, belt and heater rather than her going out to buy a new dryer. Masterpart sells the motor in a form of kit including belt and jockeys and spring. It looks a decent buy.
Is the condensing unit is gravity fed rather than pump fed (I have not explored this section but it kind of looks like a gravity fed)?
