I need to change the drum spider on one of these this week and notice that the old one is riveted on – drilling it off won’t be a problem but I couldn’t see any kit for fixing the new one to the drum – is there one or if not what do you use?
Seeing that they sell the spider as a separate unit there must be an approved way of fixing it?
I am already guessing that the ordinary nuts and bolts in a hardware store won’t cope with the detergent and water mix so what type are used for fixing things like the Hotpoint spiders?
Did one Hoover bearings + spider change once years ago and those rivets are haaard!! Take a 10mm cobalt drill and you should be OK. It was a Performa I did so could be a whole lot different now but it was a pig of a job and I vowed never to do another. I used a Hotpoint WM series bolt kit. I think I had to enlarge the holes slightly to enable them to fit.
I had the impression anything with -80 at the end was of Chinese origin.
