ParticipantI have the above washing machine & it has started to make a metal on metal scraping sound when loaded but seems fine when unloaded. The sound is non existent or less on lower speeds.
I suspsect that there is something between the drums as when holding the drum at 12 & 6 to check for play there does not seem to be any play.
I have asked if anyone has bra wires missing & all intact but of course maybe coins.
Does it sound like bearings & if so how easy to change or how to get the objects (if any)from between the drums?
The machine has just past its 5th birthday but has had infrequent use.
Is it time to retire the machine?Any help appreciated

Sounds like the inner drum failing. Unplug from the electric. Take a close look through the holes with a torch and look for scoring on the inside of the plastic tub.

Hi Firestarter
Thanks for the reply. By scoring do you mean on the front edge possibly due to the inner drum falling or do you mean from coins etc between the drumd? If its a plastic outer drum how come the noise is metal on metal with just say coins trapped? Also how can I get them out?
If the inner has dropped how can I tell & does this mean the bearings again?
Thanks

Broken drum support spigot I wouldn’t mind betting. Time for a new machine. 🙁

How can I tell if its the drum support spigot are there any signs such as the inner drum not central? If its coins in between how can I get them out?

If it was coins the noise would be constant even without clothes in the machine. The added weight of the clothes is putting pressure on the drum and therefore the previous diagnosis from Martin is the more likely.
Also it is unlikely that any coins would stay”trapped” as they always find a way to the bottom and the sump hose.
You can if you wish disconnect the sump hose and take out the heater this will allow you more visibility into the tub.
Unplug before venturing into the machine.September 2, 2012 at 8:48 pm #380356stamm

Thanks Spanish
I laid the machine on its back & removed the pump hose from the drum & I imediately saw the usual bra wire which must have been lieing tight to the outer drum. All I can suggest is that it move until more weight in the drum hence more movement.
I then tried a couple of towels on spin cycle & even on full speed no noise. So hopefully cured fingers crossed.
Thanks to all for your help.
