My washer dryer has stopped drying.

I opened it up and noticed the heater element does fire up but the fan does not cut in to blow the hot air into the tub. I assumed it was a faulty fan motor, bought a new motor and with great hassle got the fan off and took off the old motor then fitted new and replaced fan – still does nto cut in. So guess it must be the power not getting to the fan motor? Now I’m stuck, presumably there is some sort of thermostat that may need replacing which tells fan when to start/stop? I know there is an overheat reset button on top of the heating unit (often have to reset as machine is badly designed) but not sure if it is this that needs replacing or somethign else? Any help appreciated.
