ParticipantOK, let’s see if I can remember all this. The washing sits in suds, and is still damp. The spin stops short, so I checked the filter on the front – nothing seemed to be there. Tried again, no difference. Tilted the machine back and took off the hoses and made sure there was no blockage in them either. Gunk came out but not enough to have blocked anything, and no improvement. Went back to it a few times again (not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} confodent I’d done everything OK) but it did seem to pump water out. So I got cocky and rinsed again, and back to square 1. Took off the pressure switch tube, and blew down it. You hear the water bubbling away as I did it. Ran the spin cycle again, with the tube still disconnected, and it seemed to drain better, but it made more noise than usual (I know I had the top off but it still sounded noisier).
Fed up, I took the filter off and ran a spin cycle again. Water collected in a tray, but the pump ran only at the start then shut off, the drum increased it’s speed as it should, and the washing came out as it should, with the water not having been pumped away but drained off instead.
I ran a spped wash cycle when I’d emptied the washing, but it ran only so far, stopped dead, then moved the programme selector to ‘Stop’ and sat there with te door lock light on doing nothing at all else.
Sorry this is a bit lengthy but wanted to cover everything I though may be relevant. Any suggestions?

Sounds like pump not operating. It should for duration of spin.

Cheers Simon. Sorry if this sounds like I’m doubting (which from my position I am not capable of!), but with a missus in my ear and bags of school clothes off down to my daughters as a stop-gap measure, you’ll understand that I’d like to tick all other boxes too. I remember when we got the machine it had warnings on every page and every sheet saying not to turn the programme selector without turning the power off as it would blow the circuits, which I religiously follow and seem to have persuaded my wife of too, but 16 and 18 year old sons rushing to go to their football or the gym aren’t quite so obedient. Is this a concern, or am I looking at it too deeply?
Cheers,
Gerry.

Just a thought……..you are looking at the drain pump and not the circulating pump. Not sure about this model but on many Hoover machines the pump at the front attached to the filter is the ciculation pump.Drain pump is to rear of machine.
Power off if you`re going further. :zap:
Hope this helps

Thanks Bryan. That had me scrambling underneath again! Hadn’t considered a 2nd pump! The filter is connected to the the pump at the front that is connected to the outlet pipe, so I presume there is just one.
Cheers,
Gerry
PS, that ‘power off’ advice can’t ever be overstated. The taste of my dental fillings is one I do not want to have to repeat!

Ok , there is only one pump and I would suggest if it is not running during spin then 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain you have a faulty pump.(as Simon46 suggested)
Once again power off as you and your teeth obviously know already :zap:

Cheers Bryan,
Last one before I’m off to buy a pump! Any ideas why the pump should work OK to begin with at each stage in the cycle but then appear to stop in mid-stream? Assuming it’s the pump but worried I’ll get a new one and still be no better off – but that’s likely to be the pessimist in me showing through. 😕
Thanks all.

Must say this is unusual behaviour because normally if pump gets started it will work ok. 😕 You actually saw the pump start then stop when you put machine through spin cycle with filter off ❓
When you remove pump you will get a better look at it and you may even find something causing problem.Otherwise I can`t think of a fault that would cause loss of power to pump after initially starting. Some of the other guys will speak up if I`m missing something I`m sure. 💡Power off :zap:

😉
Cheers Bryan,
Yes, that’s right, it goes then stops, but there is a noise as it works. I’ll have ity off and a closer look, but there doesn’t seem to be anything stuck in it, and I can spin it with my fingers poked through too – power off of course!
Thanks,
Gerry

Also have you reconnected pressure swich hose you mentioned in your original post ❓Bryan

Hi Bryan,
Well it spins while the drum picks up speed, runs for a short while longer, then simply stops. The drum runs on, and depending on whats in the drum (if there was wet washing in it, or if I’d run an ’empty-machine’ wash just to send water through it) it would carry regardless of the pump – if there was wet washing the water would spin and the water would be detected and the machine would stop spinning, if it was without washing it would drain so far and then stop.
I’m no expert, but neither am I a complete fool, so the fact that it pumps for a short while is confusing me no-end.
Cheers,
Gerry

I`ve read this thread a few times now and I really think , with the circumstances as you describe , it is time for you to call out an engineer to deal with this fault.
Possibly faulty pump and you`ve eliminated any blockage or obstruction all the way from sump hose right through to sink spiggot or stand pipe.
Check out Repairs@ for a UKW Engineer in your area.Bryan

Seems strange that the pump does stop after running o.k. If it is the same amount of time elapsed till the impellor stops turning, that you viewed through the filter it looks like the supply is being interrupted for some reason. Engineer time i think. Do not diagnose with machine plugged into mains socket. Repairs@ may be able to help you.

No UKW engineers listed in Service@, so took the pump right out and went to a local shop with it. Bit of lesson in the process: in the bright light of day whilst sat at the traffic lights (it was extremely bright at that time this morning, honestly) you could see a discoloration in the casing of the pump, and on inspection some of the darker casing seems to have melted slightly too. The engineer at the shop said there was a shut-off in the pump that would account for the pump stopping mid-cycle if it overheated like this, so I’ve got a new one and it’s in a test cycle as we speak. I’ll keep you posted (after I’ve hidden the embarrassment of not spotting that previously and saving myself a couple of days of repeat questions from the good lady and a mountain of washing that has somehow become my fault/responsibility!).
Cheers,
Gerry.

Oh! Hang out the bunting and fetch me my slippers!
😀
My son is away to Spain on Saturday and she-who-must-be-obeyed-and-never-questioned can sit easy in the knowledge that, whatever else he may get up to whilst out there with his friend’s family, he do so with clean clothing!
Thanks a million everyone for simply being about to focus my thoughts and point me in what ended up as the right direction! Have to make sure I recommend this site to friends. My daughter has an Indesit machine that she insists on rinsing with hot water, but as I don’t know whether that is right or not I’ll check the facts first before asking about that one.
Keep up the brilliant work everyone!
Cheers,
Gerry 8)
