The dryer part has stopped functioning, everything else is groovy. Having whipped the top off I notice that the front temperature trip has tripped, so I push the button back in, reassemble and it works again, for a while. Same problem again.

From other posts on this forum it’s probably that the fluff has built up to a point where airflow is affected and the heat builds up far enough to trip the trip (I can hear the fan start up so I know it’s at least moving. It spins freely when spun with a finger, power off obviously).

I cleaned the plastic condensor box a few months ago when I replaced the motor bushes, but i’ll recheck that. It looks ok from the top with a torch.

If it is the metal heater box on top of the machine which needs attention, I can see how it comes apart, and i’ll need to be careful of the wiring and presumably the heater elements:- but I notice a clear sealant between each half of the metal box. What is it..? It looks just like clear bathroom sealant, but this box is going to get pretty hot so I want to make sure I use the right stuff. Any ideas..?

    Cheers.

In fact the heater box was totally clear. On closer inspection the place where the plastic condenser box fits into the back of the drum housing was almost completely clogged with ‘grey’. After some disassembly, I removed the ‘grey’ (and I really don’t want to think what that slimy, soggy mess was..!) and I hope that will do the trick. Haven’t tried it yet because the sealer stuff is still setting on the condenser / drum housing gasket. Glad I bought that!

I guess it would be cool for these sort of machines to have a little opening panel in the back, with a corresponding panel in the condenser box to allow easy regular cleaning, instead of a couple of hours of work! But then I am the sort of chap who adjusts carburettors at the weekend for fun..!

Any good at Stromberg CD150s? 😀 My SAAB 99 is giving me some grief at present……

The “grey” is just soggy lint, BTW.
