Hoover Jazz – identify part please!

NOT the lower cord hook!! The part in the middle of it! When the Hoover starts, within a few seconds this part appears to be sucked in, and the air passing in through it makes a loud screaming noise! Any idea what it’s called or what its function is?

It’s a valve according to Hoover spares, the part number for it is 49024907 I would suspect it’s some sort of vacuum valve. Yours may have something in it causing the scream or it needs replacing.

A lot of cleaners have these sort of valves. essentially the allow air in if it cant get in another way

the chances are your cleaner is blocked either with an obstruction or the filters have not been cleaned

Many thanks Don – any idea what its purpose is?? Considering how close it is to the motor, I would have thought it is perhaps some form of pressure relief (to relieve the vacuum pressure if the hose becomes blocked etc), but if that’s the case it shouldn’t be operating if the cleaner has been emptied and the hose is clear.
