Thanks Dave, The spring on this is located behind the small removable panel on either side (No. 207).
The only thing that looks like it is slightly above the hinges 181a & 182a, but looking at the images on connect that relate to these hinge part numbers, the spring isn’t included.
The closest I’ve managed to find is searching for the spring and removing the ‘TX’ from the model in the search which gives me this https://connections.connect-distribution.co.uk/cv6/product.pl?pid=3716260.

yes did some digging and found that spring part no 49022472

bad new is there are 5 models listed starting HMC440TX and this spring is listed in all the others but not yours. by the looiks of the diagrams the hinge assembly is different
    see pics below

cant you reform the end of the spring and refit ?

Thanks for looking into this Dave.
The original spring went under guarantee. Hoover went out to it but could get the appliance out of the housing because the cable was too short.
The spring is fairly heavy duty, I think it would be difficult to reform and if shortened, will over stretch it when pulled taut. The side that hasn’t broken loks like it’s overstretched
If I can’t get a replacement it might be the only option though. Maybe reforming it and adding a metal hook to extend it might work.
