Hoover New Wave 1300 washer dryer door won’t open!

Hi,

My Hoover New Wave Washer Dryer 1300 was working fine for the past 8 months however, now the door won’t open and the little button you press to make it open doesn’t seem to be doing the trick.

There is a washing load in the machine and I can feel the mechanism trying to work when I press the ‘door open’ button but it just isn’t catching.

Is there anything I can do to fix it? Any help greatly appreciated as I’m about to call for a repair man but would rather fix it myself.

The sticker on the side of the mahcine says it was serviced etc in merthyr tydfill if that helps?

has the belt fallen off early hoover machines needed the belt on or the door wont open

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve no idea, as a washing machine novice I’ve no idea how to check.

ON newer washing machines I’ve sen there is usually an easy way to look inside but on the model I have just now there seems to be no easy way inside without unscrewing large parts (which I’m understandably uneasy about doing) of the machine.

I did try to put the load on a spin cycle to see if it was perhaps down to water not draining and although the machine seemed to ‘power up’ the drum didn’t mve.

Would this be consistant with the belt coming off? If so how easy is it to fix? Or would I need an engineer to do it?

its likely

turn power off and unplug

look at back of machine there is a cover

remove cover and you will see a large pulley the belt goes from the small motor pulley at the bottom around the big one

if the belt is off you should find it lying on the floor or round one of the pulleys
look at belt for signs of breakage if none clean large pulley with damp cloth to remove dust and replace belt and cover and try
machine

……and if there is water left in the drum then you also won’t be able to open the door.

Thanks for both your replies.

Dave – I’ll have a look tonight but when I looked last night I couldn’t see a cover but I’ll give it a bash (not literally!).

Martin – thanks for that, that was my initial thought but couldn’t see any water in there but there may well be.

On newer machines you can remove the kick plate at the botom and drain them but no idea how to drain this model?? Is it just the pipes at the back?

Un-hook the drain hose from the back panel and lower it to the ground to allow gravity to syphon any water out. (into a bowl of course. :wink:)
