    Hi,

First post here and looking for some repair advice please 🙂

My ‘Hoover New Wave Washer Dryer 1300’ (which, incidentally I’ve owned from new, circa 1993 and has never previously needed to be repaired!! 8) ) recently developed a small water leak.

On investigation, it appears to be coming from the seal/lip at the rear of what appears to be a water/heater tank.

I’ve removed the tank assembly and it appears that it should be easy to split the upper and lower halves after which, I intend to clean the lip/mating faces and attempt to re-seal the assembly.

My question is: is there any particular sealant that is required or recommended or, will a trip to Halfords for something automotive/generic be sufficient?!

Obviously, needs to be resistant to water and heat but other then that, I wouldn’t have thought it needs to be ‘special’. Would that be correct?

Side panel label suggests that the model number is A8612-001 and that it was ‘tested by Martin Lewis at Merthyr Tydfill’ – thanks Martin!! 😀

Any help to keep my WD running would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks.

PS: Here’s a link to an image for clarification:

Water is leaking from the seal on the RHS of the picture (taken from RH side panel) between the bend (near the female spade connector from which a wire has become detached) and the rubber gaiter.

Really?! No-one has anything to add?! 😕

Oh well, looks like I’ll be popping down to Halfords tomorrow then for some Loctite silicone gasket sealant. Cheers! :rolls:

    Thanks for your reply.

Whilst I’m more than prepared to defer to the experts, I’m afraid I can’t agree with your comment about there being no water in there!

Currently, there is very clear evidence of a sealant compound around the entire edge of the assembly where the upper and lower halves are mated together.

Inside, there is a heater element and a number of thermistor-type devices attached. Also, one end of the chamber is connected to a port in the top of the drum assembly immediately above the door aperture which, is surely the water feed!

And, I have also identified that water is leaking from the joint between the upper and lower halves of the chamber – hence my initial question.

Here’s a photo of the leaky end (the gasket sealant is just evident but has thinned towards the end, near the opening:

And here’s a photo of the other end which connects to an opening into the drum. The sealant is very evident:

21 years authourised hoover engineer there is no water in there your first picture is the end where the fan blows the air over the dryer heater element.
your second picture is the end which fits onto the tub front plate.
there is no water going through there only air if you have a leak at your machine it will most likely be the door seal.
by all means seal up the unit if you so desire.

Re: Hoover New Wave WD 1300 Water Tank Sealant

Understood – what you said makes sense to me now that it’s been explained – thanks.

What I’m confused about is that I very definitely saw water seeping and dripping steadily from the rear of that chamber. The water appeared to emerge from the horizontal joint before running along it towards the rubber bellows/gasket (the rearmost one) before dripping downwards. It then made its way down the rear of the machine and onto the side of the motor. 😯

When I took the machine out I fully expected it to be the door seal but it isn’t.

    Now I’m confused 😕

Guess I’ll fire up the machine again tomorrow and try to photograph/video the water emerging.

    Thanks for replying.

    another thought,
have you checked to make sure that the machine is not overfilling with water, the high water level sould be about an inch below the middle of the door.
if its overfilling you could have a blockage in the pressure system.

Re: Hoover New Wave WD 1300 Water Tank Sealant

I haven’t noticed it being excessively high but in the same breath, I haven’t checked it.

Perhaps of interest, I had perceived the water leak to be intermittent (sometimes I noticed a slight puddle and sometimes nothing) but recently, I’ve been thinking it might be connected to certain programmes, even though I couldn’t make sense of that myself.

Does the ‘high water level’ vary between programmes and if so, would there be one you’d recommend checking the high water level on?

    Many thanks.

Re: Hoover New Wave WD 1300 Water Tank Sealant

there is normally a low level on wash and a high level on rinse,
if you are checking the door seal for leaks take the outer lip of the seal off of the cabinet and look at the outside of the seal.

Thanks – I will look at this again tomorrow.

    Cheers.
