ParticipantWell now I have everything out of the machine, I am hoping the hardest part of the job is done…

ParticipantOK, I replaced the pulleys and rebuilt the machine. Switched on and everything worked. Hurrah! Then the drum stopped turning so that it could begin tumbling in the other direction and that was it. It just stopped.
I disassembled the machine again to check that I hadn’t inadvertantly twisted the belt or the like, but everything looks fine. Put everything back together and now the drum won’t turn again like the original probem reported. I did notice that the replacement pulley wheels didn’t seem to spin very freely, but the fact that the machine started to spin suggests that this is not an issue anyway.
Can anyone please advise further? The Wife is already sizing up new machines….

Participanthave you tried givinfg it a push? the capacitor could now be faulty, or even the motor to be honest

ParticipantYes – pushing the drum is really hard work and eventually it turns but the belt doesn’t…

ParticipantHow likely is this to be a capacitor problem?
October 29, 2008 at 2:33 pm #266557helo_75
Participantit would normally go with a push if the cap was faulty
it does sound like somethings jammed
have you tried running it with the belt off?October 29, 2008 at 3:09 pm #266558m0nkeyb0y
ParticipantNope. Never thought of it. Anything else I should try while I’m at it?
October 29, 2008 at 7:40 pm #266559m0nkeyb0y
ParticipantOK. Everything out (including drum), powered on and nothing but a buzzing. The timer ticks, the heater heats but the motor doesn’t turn. I have disconnected the capacitor and it looks like it might be cracked around the bolt. Is this likely to be the cause of my woes or has the whole motor gone?
Does anyone know the prices on these parts?
Thanks in advance,
